Winter has just given us what hopefully is its last cold blast. It was over 20C at the weekend but last night we had snow and gale force winds. Yesterday there were hail stones nearly the size of golf balls, followed by people hitting their cars with hammers just to make sure their insurance paid out for the damage.

Thanks for the red wine last night, Ak. I mulled it because the weather was so cold.

Is the hammers thing true? Sounds comical but potentially true !!

I didn't see it so it may be an urban myth, but that is the story that is going round. Insurance companies are not trusted in this city since the earthquake. We still haven't got any money and it is 19 months since the damage.

Would an insurance company pay out on that sort of thing anyway? Years ago, a car of mine suffered hail damage on the roof (in the middle of a tropical summer storm in Queensland believe it or not!) and my insurance company refused to pay for the panel beating - although for some reason they did pay for the new windscreen/rear window. I ended up having to take the cheaper option of hiding the damage with black vinyl - which actually made the sports car look even sportier.;)

Morning all, very grey and feels fresher this morning. According to the meteo the sun is shining and another hot day is upon us. :(

Yesterday I had a change by going out for dinner and a visit to a chateau. The dinner was interesting as I sat next to a French lady who told me that her mother had been married eight times. <yikes> I was having some trouble keeping up with her dialect as she came from the Midi-Pyrenees which has a very odd sound to it, so I held up eight fingers to be sure that I had heard correctly. She confirmed that it was right and went on to tell me about the rest of her disfunctional family, including suicides and brain tumours which had required ten months in hospital.

As I was chair bound I was only able to see around the ground floor of the chateau and the gardens, but Mme was telling me that on the first floor was a stuffed wolf. It seems that the animal was rescued a hundred years ago as a cub when it's mother was shot in a hunt. The cub was put with the young dogs and grew up to believe it was one of them. It became very domesticated and a favourite of the lady of the house, living three or fours years longer than the average for a wolf. Eventually it became almost blind and drowned when it stumbled into the lake. The lady didn't want to be without it, so it was stuffed and has stood at the top of the grand staircase ever since.

I had a Silver Ford Capri Laser limited edition with Red go faster stripes, leather steering wheel & gear stick, Walnut dashboard, spoked wheels and the biggest sunshine roof I have ever seen it must have been verging on a soft top. It was my pride and joy until some Ba****d nicked it. I did get it back 3 weeks later minus the dashbord, wheels & steering wheel but the insurance company would only pay for standard Capri parts so it was never the same but I did still have the Leather gear stick surround and knob. :emoticon-0121-angry

Good afternoon all, thanks for the coffee Ak. Read about your snow yesterday and it prompted me into ordering some fleece covering for my plants.
