Sunderland AFC News And Banter Page: Sunderland midfielder David Meyler makes his long-awaited senior debut for the Republic of Ireland tonight. The former Cork City ace has battled back from two career-threatening knee injuries to get the call-up from Irelandâs well-respected Italian boss Giovanni Trapattoni. Meyler will play in central midfield alongside Wiganâs James McCarthy in the Irish teamâs friendly against Oman at Craven Cottage tonight. And legendary former Italy and Juventus boss Trapattoni is looking forward to seeing the debut of a player who has been on the Irish scoutâs radar for some times. `Il Trapâ said: âMeyler has a good personality and a good technique in midfield. He plays directly the ball, has good geometry, on the left, and the right. âHe is also physically good, he is a little bit tall and we have followed him since two years ago when we called him up.
This will do 1 of three things... 1. He will show his class and play a good game and MON will have a harder choice when it comes to midfield in future 2. A bigger club will see him and go ALMIGHTY CHRIST and sign him up 3. He will play ****e and be sold in January... Personally hoping for number 1
Numbers 2 & 3 are non-starters if the local newspaper is to be believed. He has said he is not interested in going anywhere regardless of circumstances according to the reports. We shall see.
He can play angled balls and understands the dimenstions of the pitch I think? Mind you his english is better than my Italian, as I found out is Sicily the last two weeks
