The cupboard is looking a little threadbare! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19527517 I'm chuffed for Lallana, though - I really thought he lit up the Championship last season. Lambert can't be far from joining him in the squad too.
Unlikely any will get on, but it's good they are getting the experience of being around the squad. Sterling has been one of the bright points of a poor start to Liverpool's season.
Sterling should get on. If only for the reason that he will be an England player not a Jamaican player of the future.
Oh dear Peter Crouch. But with Rooney and Young missing PC should be in the squad. Never let England down at all. Unlike some. Dont expect them to get on but maybe next time when we host San Marino on 12/oct. I expect Gary Cahill to replace JT tonight.
Unfortunately we appear to be having a sudden cluster of young wingers breaking into the side - but they're always wingers! Sterling and Chamberlain could be our futurre, but what other top drawer players do we have that are younger than myself?
Defenders are not usually top drawer until they mature and have some experience, same with goalkeepers, hence the reason most of the young break though players are wingers and forwards.
If he refused to be on standby for the euros then yes he very much let England down. As for the 'some' you refer to I guess that's the usual Terry, Lampard, etc.? The ones who get all the criticism but actually are our most comitted players. That could be a big problem for us, we seem to have a never-ending supply of young wingers coming through, but hardly any young defenders or creative midfielders. Jack Wilshere, as I've said many times on here, could be our biggest hope but whereas Spain seem to have neverending young midfielders and attackers, we don't seem to have anyone else coming through in that kind of position. That said, I do agree with what Airlie said that it comes with age in some positions. You hardly ever see a young target man do you? Compared to nippy strikers anyway. I imagine that's because they don't start to rely on strenght and power until they start to run out of pace.
