2 days and no answer,I'll wait a bit longer and put the details of the answer up..... Major clue.......These events took place in the seasons 1954/5 and 1989/90....I wonder how long now before someone gets it..?

Thanks for these interesting and especially on this one, challenging quizzes. If I may make some comments about this one in particular. 70 represents the highest number of points ever achieved in 46 games at 2 points per win in the Third Division (South) But by a long way, the most successful season ever was 1905-6 when in 38 Second Division matches at 2 points per win, we gained 66 points winning 30, 6 draws and only 2 defeats. The next season we finished 2nd in the First and then the 1908-9 FA Cup final. A truly golden era. My father, aged 6, saw City in about 1910 as the slide out of the First was beginning. But at least he lived to se us back up there in 1976.
