Tricky one this. You cant reign him in and change the way he plays because that would take away his game. But he is getting booked that often that it might start to paint a target on his back with referees. That's 12 for the season for him now and because of the reputation he is building from thes cards, it might make refs reach for the pocket a bit to easily in a 50/50 challenge say. Like I said, it's a tricky one because we miss his style of play when he is not playing. I would like to see someone playing next to him with a bit more creativity next season. I think if Ireland signs he could be perfect, but at the same time I wouldn't want to drop Nolan. Isn't it nice to have these types of dilemmas though.
I think he is already a target as his booking today was baffling to say the least! Blackpool continuously fouled our players with similar challenges and nothing happened!
I know Keith Southern must have done about 5 and never got booked, first run of the mill foul from Tiote oh look yellow card.
Against Man U and Blackpool thought he was unlucky to get booked. As you say he is getting a reputation and refs are just going for the card as soon they see it's Tiote.
Taylor Fletcher hacked tiote at least 4 times and didn't get booked. I've lost a lot of respect for Blackpoool yesterday.
Keith Southern's a ****. Just thought I'd get that out there. Tiote's foul wasn't that bad yesterday, not deserving of a booking but the way the Blackpool player went over. Looked like a grenade had landed at his feet. Minutes after Cheik went up for a header, eyes on the ball, and a Blackpool player backed into him and took him out in mid air and the ref gave them the free kick. I wouldn't have been surprised if he'd shown a second yellow as well the ****.
Blackpool were trying to milk it, DJ went down like a ton of bricks a few times when anybody was near him and just laughed as he picked himself up after getting nothing. Holloway must have them doing it during training.
I remember that, it was an outrageous decision! It was on the edge of the box as well so gave them a great goalscoring oppotunity! He does collect a lot of yellow cards but generally only half of them are deserved. It's just that when he does go into tackles he goes in hard and it seems like they are trying to stop this but who knows why. Theres nothing better than a good hard challange. Its a contact sport afterall isn't it?!
Tiote isn't a dirty player, he just wants to play football. Anybody with half a brain should be able to see that.
Tiote may get booked, but he gets booked trying (and often succeeding) to win challenges and tackles. He doesn't make rash tackles that could break someones leg (De Jong etc.), doesn't do stupid things to get into trouble with the FA, so should be OK.
alot of his bookings this season have been 'taking one for the team' when other team was breaking and hes just stepped in to break it down ;[ imo with barton moved into the centre and some more creativity upfront to keep hold of the ball abit better his bookings will decrease , gotta remember too its his first season in prem he'll only get better
