I'm hurt! Oasis were amazing! I have every album and have handed them down to my sons. I would give my left ball to see them live once more.
They took the Beatles and the Sex Pistols and put it together, Fair play to them it made them rich but I thought they were awful.
In my humble opinion, Oasis were dull as ****. Rarely excited by their music, perhaps Live Forever was a good song, but not much else drew me in. I prefer a healthy does of originality, wherever possible.
aah well. I grew up with a family of Oasis lovers so they were bound to become one of my favourites I liked a few of their songs, my favourites would be Don't Look Back In Anger, Wonderwall, Live Forever, Morning Glory, She Is Love, Champagne Supernova, Lyla and Whatever.
The Las - everyone knows "There she goes" it was a song of Beatles-esque stature.. but buy The Las live at the BBC you'll find plenty of gems.. in factoid "Timeless Melody" is a better song IMO & "Feeling" also great.. their problem was they were perfectionists and the lead singer Lee Mavers was a druggie..
Fine Young Cannibals She Drives Me Crazy also had a Good Thing With Roland Gift who grew up in hull, went to Kelvin Hall
I like Oasis, always prefered them to Blur when they were trying to out sell each other in the mid 90s. As for originality in bands. Not many original bands round since most things have been done to death. Everyone/ every band who comes on the scene is usually compared to another group from another time.
Back on topic, Toploader call is a good one, Achilles Heel is a great song. Around the same time, the New Radicals (You only get what you give) had a pretty good album - well worth a listen. Can't remember any of the songs though sadly. In a similar category, in the Uk at least, were British grunge band Bush. They were massive in the US, but in their home country only really had one hit - Swallowed.
Joe Jackson - he who sounds a bit like Elvis Costello Is quite the no hit wonder in so much as he hasnt has a UK number one , but i bet most around in the 80s remember Steppin out , different for girls and is she really going out with him.
another band i thought of that also had some big hits but no number ones XTC - plans for Nigel ? and senses working overtime . im not sure if ive answered the opposite to the topic question tho
Not very old but I really liked the Fratellis who got famous with Chelsea Dagger. It was an okay song but I thought they had loads of better ones which never became very famous. They only made two albums before splitting up but they were both pretty decent.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_LagKKWPLc&feature=related Ahhh The Ferrets, they were great in the 70's
