I guess I can see the lure... If I were a racing driver, I'd want to drive for Ferrari. If you go there and do well, you're immortalized and adored by some of the most passionate fans on the planet. So I can see that side of it. Vettel is still young and could still be in for a shout of his third straight title with RBR... That would take some walking away from.
Best of luck to young Kiwi (and Mark Webber protege) Mitch Evans who leads the GP3 championship going into the final round today. Yesterday was one of the worst possible outcomes for him, after he retired and one of his main title rivals - Daniel Abt - won the race. It's now a two-horse race between Evans and Abt with Evans leading by 14 points with 15 available for a race win, 12 for second, and two for the fastest lap. This means Abt needs to win and Evans not to get the fastest lap or finish 8th or higher to become champion. Abt will line up 8th on the grid and Evans will line up 25th.
What a race it was. I can't see Evans going into F1 to be honest. He choked this weekend. Took himself out yesterday and went too aggressive today and gave himself a puncture. Abt drove brilliantly all weekend. And from the limited gp3 action that i've seen, him and Antonio Felix da Costa are the best two drivers.
So who won the championship? EDIT: Nvm, I just saw the Autosport report. I imagine he'll be annoyed to win in such a disappointing way, but he's only eighteen, dealing with pressure will come with experience. It was good that he built a good points gap early on anyway to take it. Well done Mitch!
I didnt say as I didnt want to ruin it. It's a shame that da Costa got a problem yesteday as without that he'd have won the championship. But the championship came down to the final lap! Where Ellinas overtook Abt.
Thanks . We from down under can choke like no-one else in the world can, especially in motorsport: Webber (2010), Will Power (Indycar 2010, 2011 and perhaps this year as well), and now Mitch Evans, except he actually pulled it off! What a prestigious club to join Great work by Ellinas to win on the last lap, and as always, a great start (and finish) by Abt.
Agree with all of this, Evans won by the skin of his teeth, he failed to score in the last three races. Abt was brilliant, I was impressed with how mature he was when Ellinas passed him both times, I could imagine someone like Hamilton trying to steam back up the inside in those circumstances and taking them both out the race. Abt and da Costa look better than any of the GP2 drivers too in my opinion. Another calamitous start to their race, loads of contact, it looked like Ericsson didn't even bother to brake into the first corner, then Onidi ploughed into three cars on the second lap.
I feel very ill today, which means Hamilton is going to have a lights to flag win. Is this Abt related to the DTM Abt?
This is his Dad's team: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abt_Sportsline His uncle: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Abt
Alonso looks really confident. I think he knows Massa will help him. Massa will lead into T1 and hold everyone up!
I'm starting a suicide cult, to get away from Lazenby's bland and boring presentation. Anyone fancy joining.
have to admit. the team work used by Ferrari this weekend so far has been beautiful. lets see what they do today. This could secure Massa another year if it goes right
