As an antidote to the cynical and increasingly mercenary world of professional football, the Paralympics has produced some truly awesome displays that would put the majority of able-bodied people to shame. Couple that with the fantastic attendances and the incredible will of many of the participants and they have produced a games that has been a refreshing change from what we're used to seeing on the box.

So many of the participants have been through so much to get to their respective events and some of the winners are truly awe-inspiring, as indeed, are many who didn't win. Whilst our footballers prance around and often cheat to gain an advantage to earn their millions, the Paralympic competitors don't earn anything other than the enormous respect and admiration their incredible achievements so richly deserve...

Have been following the paralympics from afar Sooper via the web, sadly the tv coverage in Peru has been non-existent. I count it a privilege to help run a group for young adults with disabilities twice a week, their courage and positive outlook on life is truly humbling, many of them living in very difficult circumstances with zero support from the state here in Peru

I see you Brits are doing really well, second in the medals table. Impressive.

Ireland arn't doing too bad either, 15th in the medals table with 8 golds ahead of some much bigger countries.

Swords, I thought your joke above was quite funny.

    A ridiculous joke - I like it!

Good thread, I hope the Paralympics change the attitude of those who view people with disabilities as second class citizens. It won't change all but a few would help.

On thing I'm particularly proud of is the way our club involves the whole community in this way. You see those kids who haven't been born with the easiest start in life and the pride and the enthusiasm with which they run around the pitch is truly inspiring.

I don't want to get too political here, but I've been a bit bemused at why the crowds have had it in for Government ministers at the award ceremonies. I guess scrutinising disability benefits when there is such a wide poor-rich divide is bound to be contentious, but if there are charlatans claiming disability benefits when they're fit for work, it must be to the advantage of the genuine claimants that they are weeded out. Personally, I'd spread the savings made this way among the vast majority who are deserving.

There is a really fat woman near where I live who must be getting on for 30 stone with no exaggeration
She lives on her own in a bungalow and struggles to walk to the toilet without getting out of breath
My other half feels sorry for her and buys her shopping and takes her to asda every couple of weeks in a taxi
She says that this fat woman will spend up to £200 on food for herself buying tons of cakes, sweets or any junk food she can find
She also says that the government give her £1400 a month to live on and of course give her free everything
I forgot to mention that she also smokes like a trooper
Why should I pay taxes out of my hard earned money for a greedy cow when she gets given more than I earn??????????

Andy, I don't know why you're having such a go at the Paralympics and disabled people in general. You're entitled to your opinion but what the fu*k's your beef with these people?
