I think what Flyer is trying to say is that alcoholism isn't a disease, its an addiction. Big difference.

Diakite back in training on monday according to bbc.

Silly of "sky sources" to run this story all day and it turns to a dud.

That's how nasty rumours start

 

That's a tough break mate.

Reading about it and fibro (they were initially unsure which it was) it seems that it's difficult to find doctors that even recognise or know enough about it to make a referral even.

I'd imagine at 19 they could find a million different illnesses to try to assign the symptoms to so probably it wasn't picked up too quickly.

Anyway, all the best mate and may your good days be frequent and happy and may your bad days get fewer and further between.

Also Swords, I can't really see how you seemed to be angry at Diakite/the club if it were true, you can't avoid or predict depression...

 

Thanks Matt, it was tough at first. I saw a specialist in Newcastle so it was diagnosed in a few months, I was quite lucky with that. Unfortunately there are no pills for the illness - only herbal remedies. Can't begin to imagine what the future Mrs QPR Matt is going through with her other illnesses, I hope she also has losts of good days.

 

Youd be surprised at how many justify it as Ive smoked for x years, I might as well carry on. The fact is if you give up, the chance of you getting cancer drops to the same as a normal person within a couple of years. A neighbour has just got lung cancer and he smokes, hes going to slowly suffocate until he dies, not something someone should go through.

As for his anger, I think thats aimed at the reporting as hes had relatives worried about him. Id be angry about anyone reporting about a disease I didnt have, mental or physical. Its got nothing to do with being enlightened or PC.

We all either have an illness, know someone close to us who has one or several. I'm also sure we've all had either family or friends who have died. It's called life, just get on with it and don't make a fuss or give up. Whatever he has he'll have the best treatment money can buy. It won't affect my life or yours so let's not all worry about it too much, I'm sure he'll be fine in the end.....

As touching as your piety is, SB is right, I do still possess the mental faculties (despite a supposed 5 point reduction in IQ due to smoking) to understand the ramifications of my actions. I don't look to dodge the fact that it's exclusively my responsibility to give up too.

I think I'll leave it at that.
