I think the key things to remember here are the fact that we had to write off £50mil this year from the previous regime which dented us heavily. Positivley going forward, we look to have increased our annual revenue by something crazy like 300% which would see us not that far behind you in terms of generation. Add to this the deals FSG are still working on in thebackground and we'll be pushing you financially (Albeit due to the fact we don't have the debt anymore) but still, the signs look good for us!
I think you've overlooked the potential for commercial revenue to a degree in the past, probably because you've been relying on your fanbase for income but the sign are that you're finally tapping into the commerical revenue that you should have been trying to get. It won't be instant, I think a big step will be getting back into CL contention which I don't see as being impossible, probably not this year, but if FFP comes in then I can see the potential for you to get back into the top 4. Once you get there then the potential for bigger deals opens up as Swarbs said earlier.
Absolutely spot on there, I think we were subject to the traditional quick buck regime and weren't (For want of a better phrase) exploited the way we should have been. I think if we had been utilised better in the 80's and early 90's, we wouldn't be so many light years behind you guys as we are at the moment. Like I said, we seem to be heading in the right direction and as long as we don't get screwed over in the meantime (Which is not an impossibility given no one expected it the last time round) we should be back on track in a year or two.
Dave A, its all well and good saying once Liverpool get there they will get more sponsorship money etc etc.... 1. They have to get there, they are currently nowhere near and each season they are not in the Champions League makes it harder for them to ever get back. 2. Their playing staff are of a poor standard relative to the other clubs competing for the top 4. What happens if they fail to reach the Champions League over the next 3 years?
Btw, where do you get the 300% commercial revenues increase from? Are you basing it on your commercial revenues in 1892? Its doubled since 2006.
