Ah! yes the masters of putting words in someones mouth, when they haven't moved their lips. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
Before i get pelters! Just to be clear that was a tongue in cheek comment. I have nothing but respect for what he has and is trying to do for the club.
Getting back to the OP's point, the £30m spent should be enough to keep us up this season. At some point during the next couple of years we will see the breakthrough into the first team of the Jack Stephens/Corby Moore/Ben Reeves/Sam Hoskins etc. group of academy players who will form the nucleus of the team that will, with the addition of one or two marquee signings, see us push for Europe. That is Cortese's vision, as he has said publicly many times. So far, he has delivered 100% on what he promised, and ahead of schedule as well. I see no reason why any of us should start doubting him now.
It seems to me to be harder to get promoted than to stay up. We've only got to find three teams worse than us in the Premiership, whereas in the Championship we've got to be in the top 2 out of 24, with 16 teams or so realistically going for promotion. The teams placed 3rd to 6th have as much chance as each other of winning the play offs, anything can happen.
That's why I didn't understand people saying that we were going up too early last season. There are no guarantees that we would do as well this year if we'd remained in the Championship. You have to strike whilst the irons hot.
Goals keep you in this league.Stability is the key from now on, no rash sackings or changes. Even a relegation should not change our principle; stick with our youth players & Adkins.
Well there is something called planning, but I appreciate your concern. Basically, Saints could have made themselves overwhelmingly too damn good to stay in the Championship, and therefore, after promotion, could have been better equipped to deal with their first season in the PL. However, anyone who thinks Cortese didn't want to be promoted at the first attempt forgets that Billy Sharp was bought mainly for that purpose.
