    ...at the Vetch.

When we played at the Vetch field who was the greatest player you ever saw (Swansea or the Visitors) ?

There was a guy playing for Southend when we played them in the league and LDV vans within a couple of weeks of each other (I think it was our last season at the Vetch) he was hell of a player who was certain to go on to great things.... Mark Gower I think his name was ;)

I'm with SA9 on this Mark Gower, I reckon FFS will agree too.

Thought Kenny Dalglish was handy too

well cas, that would be ardiles and villa, but as i remember rightly ossie didn't actually play for too long, courtesy of an infamous tommy smith welcoming tackle.
Yankee i was at that Wales Northern Ireland game to see Best although in truth don;t remember too much about it, being a bit young at the time.
not sure who the greatest player i ever saw was, plenty of good ones came to the vetch, but don;t remember them having especially memorable games that stick in my mind.
so probably the greatest players i saw were our own Curt and Robbie. by the mid 70's i was old enough to appreciate what happened on a pitch and i still recall the excitement of seeing either one on the ball.

It was so long ago that I don't remember anything much about it.

I enjoyed watching Ardilles. What i prefered even more that night was Tommy Smith welcoming them to british football and putting him in the stand.

Joey Morriera, What a left back. Remember a gaim against orient on a frozen pitch, he was like bambi on ice.

I remember that one and Best on the mud that was the Vetch then. I also remember when Arsenal Reserves were at the Vetch. It got round that Charlie George was playing for the reserves, so they opened the centre stand for people to watch Arsenal train and the place was roofed. As to the best, I'll get back to you'

However true story about Stevie Wonder! When he arrived at Swansea Airport, the local Police took him on a site seeing trip of Swansea before escorting him to his hotel. Abso true :emoticon-0140-rofl:

My first game live in the vetch was a preseason friendly against crystal palace when Iain dowie was playing -first time I'd seen a (famous-ish) footballer from the TV in the flesh.
To be honest I've missed the point cos he was crap and the game ****e but I was chuffed to the bo&*&*&s to be there.

Thinking about it the best player was my hero for a while... Roger Freestone. (yes those were barren days...)

    We're of the same vintage.
When my father in-law asked me the same question my answer was instinctively Lee Trundle...then I changed it too Freestone, as he could of played 1st Division/Premiership in my opinion.
Then I thought, by that logic the answer should be Leon Britton as he's proved it.

I'm sure I've seen great players from opposing teams at the Vetch, it's just that none of their performances really stuck in my memory...probably says more about the standard we were playing at in those days. Most of my Vetch days being spent in the old 4th Division.

How could I forget Britton! Doh! Honestly never really rated trundle (I'm expecting loads of abuse for that statement!), one footed, poor passer and a ball hog (digging my hole deeper I know). where's my tin hat?...
