I hope I'm not tempting fate here, but if we beat Millwall we could go top. Will that be a good thing? A lot of people think it's better to "stay under the radar" but I would prefer our players to have a good spell at the top and start believing in themselves as automatic promotion candidates - not just play-off hopefuls. For the last few seasons it has mostly been the teams that occupied the top two berths for most of the season that eventually went up. Again I'm not jumping to any ideas that we'll even beat Millwall. I've been a City fan for too long to fall for that one.
i'd rather have the points in the bag and the opposition worrying about citys formation , i dont think you stay "under the radar" from anyone but the media though.
Completely agree with Craig. We always seem to be in a position where only our own fans think we have any chance of achieving something and you have to wonder, if we can't convince all the neutrals, are the players really going to be convinced themselves that they are good enough? I'd love to see us riding high and getting all the attention, and I think even people who say they like us to 'stay under the radar' would probably love it too.
I'd go with you Whittler - I reckon the teams/clubs and the fans know what's happening. It's just the superannuated fools at the media who brown-nose after 'the big clubs' who don't see it. (With exceptions).
It would be nice to go top but for me at this stage it would be just as important to stay within touching distance.
I'd like to think our players would have faith in their own and their team mates ability than believe what the neutrals think
Points in the bag and 3 points as much as possible any day of the week for me. If that takes us top then so be it. Who cares about the media both local and national ? Happy with that and it does help Steve Bruce with his recruitement as well.
id like us to go top, then we can get on the main match on FLS, and then everybody can stop moaning about it every sunday morning
Me too. I'm not saying they will listen to the media, but I mean if almost all the neutral media reckon we're no better than the likes of Watford and Derby, they might well think the same thing. Being top or in the top 3 or 4 teams would clearly show that there is no doubt over the team's ability and give us a bit of momentum. There's never a huge difference between the teams in this division, but the ones at the very top always seem to be more confident than the rest even if they aren't significantly better on paper, and the other teams often respect them too much. It'd be great if we could be one of those teams.
Are you suggesting that if we did start picking up the plaudits it might increase the risk of losing Chester? I reckon the bigger clubs already know plenty about him but don't have the balls to pin their hopes and spend big on someone from a lower league like Chester. Either that or we're just telling anyone who shows an interest to get ****ed. I can't imagine no one thinks he's good enough to sign.
I agree if we can get to the top and stay there for a few weeks it will instill confidence, you will also see the attendances go up as well
We could sign Messi, Rooney, Ronaldo, iniesta, ozil, robben, cole, lahm, puyol, pepe and casillas and the media still wouldn't have us as favourites. We're hull city, an unfashionable club, the media only care about the so called 'sleeping giants' because their fan bases are bigger due to people who latched on to their previous success all over the country because they were a 'top team' at the time. If us fans have enough optimism about us being able to be solid candidates for promotion, sure as hell the players will feel the same themselves, after all it's them who give us that impression in the first place, and no ones ability is over rated more by anyone but themselves, specially big ego footballers.
It's funny how a week ago everyone was having a good whinge when City lost to Donny. That's football for you.
I think that when the club hits the top the media will latch onto us. We are a low profile club but we have a high profile manager. Managers are extremely important and we do need one who is high profile. In the last transfer window it would seem that most transferred players went for the manager, not the club.
I'd love to go top, however, that then puts the limelight on players such as Chester and Aluko. If we get there, teams learn more about them, and should we eventually stay down - fingers crossed we don't - teams in the Premier League will look to offer them a quick jump to the Premier League.
Don't underestimate how well informed managers are. They'll already know everything about our best players and they don't get their info from watching telly or reading papers.
3 points is 3 points. While I do see the point about flying under the radar I would rather have those 3 points than fall 2 points shy of the 6th spot come the end of the season.
