Looks like we might be back to square one! Mclaren claim the rumours are untrue and are at the latter stages of contract negotiations!
What else were Mclaren going to say? "Yeah, actually, we've lost him." The BBC have twisted Eddie's words something awful, I believe he actually said that a deal with Mercedes "could be imminent" which would imply they're still in negotiations.
How can you twist Eddies words? Usually Eddies words are twisted in the first place. Anyway there is no smoke without fire sometimes when it comes to F1 gossip so Im guessing Lewis is activly talking to Mercedes at the moment.
Ah ****, I never actually thought what would happen if Lewis actually did join Mercedes.... In theory I will be a Lewis Hamilton fan since I'm a big Mercedes fan as evident from my name. Lewis to make Mercedes the force they were in the 50's, or Seb the next Schumacher........****!
One little tidbit: the fact that Eddie knew about Schumacher's comeback way back before anyone even considered it a possibility implies to me that he has a source within Mercedes. Now that we've had all this glorious speculation Hamilton will announce a renewed contract at Monza
Lewis is in the fia press conference this afternoon, should be some interesting questions fired at him.
http://www1.skysports.com/formula-1/news/12433/8055402/-Mercedes-offer-Hamilton-60m- 3 Year deal worth 60 million - Far more than Mclaren can probably justify paying!
Well Lewis is for sure not lying that he doesn't know where he is going. Just stared straight at the reporter.
Rosberg as a trade? Button + Rosberg for McLaren next year? That would work out actually as they're the same kind of driver.
Except Nico reiterated that Mercedes and Ferrari were the 2 teams to driver for with the best history!
I feel quite ambivalent about this. I despised him in his first career but now I admire what he's doing. But there's so much ridicule aimed at him now and that must be hard to take for a man as proud as Michael.
Schumacher at Ferrari for one last year... I know it conjures up the romantic images of his first stint in F1, the five WDCs and so forth but I think that would just be a disastrous move for him and I hope he has the dignity to retire.
Jenson believes he is going to have the same team mate next year! "I haven't a clue if there's any truth in it, but I think I'll have the same team-mate next year." In giving his reasons why he said: "Thats because this is the best choice for him. For all of us it can get a bit stale if youre in the same place for too long, but not here. This is a great which is always giving us the opportunity to fight for wins....... Whitmarsh as positively dipolamtic as usual: "Ultimately a driver has to drive where he is happy to drive," Whitmarsh continued. "We don't want anyone in this team that is not 100% committed to it and I've made that clear from the outset. Lots of very positive things have been said to me, but again I have learnt over the years that until someone puts ink on the paper, then you don't get too excited about it. Although I still think he hasn't got a clue and the 100% committed comment should be noted! I just feel that if Lewis is staying because he has no choice Mclaren would have shot themselves in the foot. I mentioned earlier in this thread that I was suprised Mclaren hadn't forced the situation and looked to sign somebody else, I'd hate to see them left hanging when/if Lewis jumps ship!
