Goal Keeping dilemma - Should we sell Harper?

  1. Ok, please read this article carefully before typing a response, thanks.

I think Krul has been fantastic the last two games, so if he keeps this level of performances up, is there any reason to send him out on loan?

I know we all love Harper and wan't to give Forster a chance, but i think Krul has shown he can be better than Harper at his best, so i think it's either sell Harper, and let Forster and Krul have a battle for first place, or loan out Forster again.

I personally believe we should see what happens pre-season.

I think if Krul remains consistant with this level of performances, and Forster proves he's good with our team, then perhaps selling Harper will be our best option.

This all depending on how Krul does for the rest of the season, but he's saved us some excellent points in his last two games. He commands his box well, and i was glad that the ref saw that Krul actually made a fantastic save against Campbell, and the little **** dived.

I know we all feel strongly about Harper, and he's been fantastic these last few seasons, but if the other keepers show they're worth keeping, then there's no reason for us to keep a 35 year old keeper who's experience doesn't really set him above our two young prospects. I'd rather have two young ambitious keepers challenging for first spot than Harper. Sorry. It's a cold hearted view but a realistic one.

What do you think? Don't just go crazy, give me your opinion. REMEMBER. This is only a big IF. This all depends on how Krul does these remaining games.

Repay 13 years of loyalty by selling him to the first club that bids, no, sorry.

I actually agree. No, seriously I do. I also was one of the few on here who wanted Harper sold in the summer(THIS SUMMER) so we can actually get some cash for him while he still has a couple of seasons left in him. He could do a fine job for most Championship teams and act as back-up for most PL teams or even 1st choice.

BUT Harper brings experience and loyality. I say give Harper ONE LAST season(to go out on a high) and then see who's better between Krul and Forster if I'm honest. Personally I'm not sure weather to have Krul(proven in the PL yet still inexperienced and that performance against Man City at home showed it) or Forster(who is very highly-rated yet unproven at the top level.. SPL and L1 level.. mm.. can't we just loan him to a PL team next season?).

That's my take on things, anyways.

  6. Then that means we'd have atleast 1 unhappy keeper being 3rd choice, because if the other two keepers prove themselves better than that makes Harper 3rd choice, and all he'll be doing is sitting on the bench until he retires.

Sell Harper no. Loan Foster out to a Prem team not a bad idea.

Foster has done very well at Celtic but SPL isnt the best league in the world.

Krul against Man u did very well, I will watch MOTD to see how he did at Blackpool.

There's no reason to sell him, either. He's ending his career in the next one or two seasons, so we'd be selling a perfectly great goalkeeper for next to nothing.

He's a loyal servant and he's an integral part of the team. He's been through thick and thin and holds such a strong connection to the club which only Ameobi probably matches. I can tell you for sure that he'll be a strong character in the squad and play a strong part in the team spirit.

Plus, you speak about his experience, but this could play an integral role in shaping our young keepers. They might have good natural skill, but they ARE lacking experience, and both Krul and Forster could learn a LOT from Harper. If you take a naturally talented young keeper, and then add the knowledge of a very experienced goalkeeper, it'll make him even better.

    So no, keep him.

Already mentioned in previous posts that Forster is our best keeper and needs to be no1 next season - however, selling Harps is a no no, he will be GK coach and 3rd choice keeper, sending Sodeberg on loan and Krul no2 and cup keeper

  11. This is exactly how i feel but people keep on bitching about how we should give Forster a chance at this level, but i wouldn't ever send Krul out on loan as he's proven himself in this top level and his recent performances have been better than any of Harpers.

Forster on loan or sell Harper. I can't see Krul leaving for loan now.

Cant seriously believe people are wishing injuries on someone who has been the most loyal servant to a club I've seen. He could have had at least a handful of international caps if he had left us for first team football, but all he wanted to do was be at NUFC, and you wish injuries on him?

    <doh> Unbelievable.

  13. If Harper is happy being 2nd or 3rd choice then i reckon we should keep him for his experience and infleunce, but i would feel kind of bad making him sit on the bench like he did for so long, but i wouldn't play him if he isn't our best keeper either.

You seriously are a joke - Krul cannot do it at the moment for a run of games as seen earlier this season. Yes one off games he can have blinders. Forster has not only improved but has played almost every single game for last 2 seasons and to a very high consistent level. Krul has these blinders as he is playing off adrenalin just like me or you would (though I'd be nervous as runny ****e) be

I don't think anyone is playing Harper because we feel like he deserves it for his service. When he came back from injury he replaced Krul because he was better at the time. He's stayed in his spot until he was injured again. I'm sure Pards will decide who stays put when he's fit again.

There's more to goalkeeping than blocking shots, though. Harper plays an important role in commanding the defence and that has to be considered. We can't just look at who does the most impressive saves. We have to look at how strong the overall defence is between each keeper, and which keeper enables us to win more games and keep more clean sheets.

  17. Actually Krul was still very good during his spell at the start of the season. He made some vital saves, and did a good job, and was just as consistant as Harper. He had some great games, some decent games, and couple of howlers, just like Harper.

  18. Actaully i would say it was the other way around. Krul isn't as reluctant as Harper coming off his line. Harper often gets caught in two minds whether to rush of the ball or stay where he is. Krul is better at looking after his box. Harper is better at communicating. Krul and Harper both have their strengths and weaknesses.

However, Kurl has alot of time to work on that, Harper is almost retiring.

I prefer Krul but you can have your own preferences.

People here have been banging on, quite rightly, about players in this day and age not showing loyalty to their club.

And, now, we have one such player who is loyal, has never moaned nor hasn't ever let the club not its reputation down and people are wanting to sell him.

Sometimes, I think we deserve the footballers whom we get.
