Just heard from a mate who has a source inside LR that the new stadium will be where the Linford Christie stadium now stands on the scrubs. 40,000 seater. If this is wrong, don't shoot the messenger, I'm just telling you what I've heard.
If true it'd be great news as we would be staying in W12. There's certainly the space there, that's for sure. Wouldn't be that great for transport links though. If anything LR is probably slightly closer to a tube station than the Lynford Christie stadium is to either East Acton or White City... Handy for the prison and hospital though..
Heard this before on LFW, thought it sounded wrong for a new stadium/ concert venue, being next to the hospital, can't see planning permission being granted.
I cannot see it being an issue with the hospital next door. Better a footie stadium than a prison!!!! Transport isn't too bad and there is plenty of room for a car park.
I'm still of the view we should start with a 30k capacity ground and then look to grow . room to build etc. These days they can make that an easy option.
It was on here a few weeks back. I dont know if the rumours are circling our if he got the info from someone 1st hand. Ask him where he heard it from.
Not with a roof. I would think the roof is essential for keeping the noise inside the stadium for concerts.
Just had a quick look on the internet. Both Twatford and Wet Sham are near hospitals. Why should we be any different?
What happens when old jimmy is having a heart attack and the ambulance is rushing to the hospital with only seconds to spare.....only to find 40,000 drunken football fans pouring across the streets and coming out in their cars......hmm.
I cannot see the ground going ahead without it have a dedicated road, possibly off of Old Oak Common Lane, therefore the hospital entrance will not be affected.
Even though I am 10 miles away in St Albans I actually live in the 'catchment area' for Watford General as the only A&E unit in South Herts. As someone said this is right next to Vicarage Road of course but TBH, what with regular traffic problems all year round this is the least of the concerns. It is a constant cause of concern that, should the worst happen to a loved one, it will take hours to get to the hospital. The point being that the authorities don't seem to care about hospital access times. Extending the LC stadium is an obvious move for us and I imagine access will be via Scrubs Lane rather than Du Cane Road. When we discussed this before it was mentioned that a new station could be built on the nearby overground line. That in conjunction with the existing tube stations at White City and Wood Lane within easy walking distance should give plenty of transport options.
With some of the scares we have had over the years we would keep A&E busy with heart failure problems. I know we hope there wont be anymore heart stopping times but we are QPR. Other than that it seems an ideal spot and with a roof there wont be too much noise. I hope there is no suggestion of a running track in the new stadium. I'm old enough to remember when we were at White City and that was terrible.
