Surely the more worrying issue is that every one that has anything to do with saints fans and staff alike knew that our back 5 was not good enough at this level and what did NA and NC do to address this Nothing, so in conclusion although we made some fantastic signings we the club failed where it mattered most i know we got the jap lad but NA was always going to be judged on his first 6 games so 3 games in 8 goals conceded 5 at home Arsenal away next he has no one to blame but himself.

Saint Kitch, do you know how many defenders Nigel tried to sign? I have no idea, but ther were rumours about quite a few and I am sure more players that weren't even rumoured. Your statement reads a bit like a kid saying Christmas was crap becasue they didn't get everything on their Christmas list.

I don't know who we really made bids for, but to say NC and NA did "NOTHING" suggests to me you know everything that has been going on at the clubm so care to share?

 

Gazzinga is one for the future i for one am hoping he's not going to be our number one keeper this year clyne good signing cant argue with that, yoshida not played a game yet, all i'm saying is the season finished in may and we decided to wait till end of august to sign what we hope will be a first choice centre back.

 

this always seems to be the defence of the don't say anything bad about NA brigade, i have no idea how many he tried to sign all i know is he signed 1 centre back the day before deadline day thats a poor return in a 3 month transfer window do you not think?

 

Plus if he did try to sign loads like your suggesting then why did they not sign?

 

FLT is right. We don't know who we aimed for but we do know that we only want players that are better than what we already have. Maybe they just weren't available?

I will answer your question to me: I would have hoped that we would have signed more than one CB. I don't know how many we tried to sign, adn you don't either. Are you suggesting that we should have signed any CB? Perhaps NA didn't think those available were good enough.My point is that you have dished at criticism without knowing all the facts. Fair comment, wouldn't you think?

 

Well, I don't know that. However whatever that reason, it doesn't mean that the club did "NOTHING" as quoted by you.

 

ok i don't want to get into an argument over it, the point i'm trying to make is that NA has piled the pressure on himself when he didn't need to, there are thousands of centre backs that are better than what we have so to say that there were none available is just an excuse. I really like adkins but i just think he was a little naive in thinking that if we signed lots of attacking minded players it appears to me that he left the defence as an after thought. just my opinion.

Saint Kitch, I was just about to offer you an opinion on your previous post, however I won't bother. If you really can't let someone voice an opinion that is different to yours without being abusive then I suggest you take a look in the mirror and stop posting on forums.

I actually take offense at someone calling me that word, its is totally unacceptable and wholly un-neccessary. For the record, I am in a jolly mood today.

YOU need to remember this is a forum and we are not having a conversation down the pub IT IS possible that in reading something it might come across in the wrong way. i have already said i like NA and hope he is succcesful but you have to AGREE that he's put himself under more pressure by not being ABLE to sign at least 1 centre back in the 2 and a half months before the season started.

I look at the Players that we are trying to bring in as part of a Jigsaw Puzzle, if the parts don't fit there is no point in getting them, when all the parts are in place we may see some success but it isn't going to happen overnight.

 

Anyone would think we had been thrashed 8-0 in the last three games rather than competing with some of the best teams in the PL (and yes I do rate Wigan as a bloody good side on their day). Putting it kindly the Man with the Melting Face has a bit of a weakness when it comes to large sums of money changing hands and the Don ain't gonna have any of that at his club.
