QPR block Leeds United's loan bid for midfielder By Jacob MurtaghSep 5 2012 Shaun Derry LEEDS United's plans to take Shaun Derry on loan have been scuppered after the midfielder was included in QPR's 25-man squad. The Chronicle understands former boss Neil Warnock was keen to bring the 34-year-old back to Yorkshire for a second spell at Elland Road. Derry has made just two substitute appearances for Rangers this season, and has slipped even further down the pecking order after the return to fitness of Alejandro Faurlin and the arrival of Esteban Granero from Real Madrid. However, the former Crystal Palace man made the cut in the 25-man list submitted to the Premier League last night. And R's chief Mark Hughes insists he has no plans to send the veteran out on loan. He said: âAll of those in the 25-man squad figure in our plans, even with the new players coming in." Read More http://www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/london-qpr/2012/09/05/82029-31773581/#ixzz25bwbMfUx
Hoorah! Good lad is our Shaun. True pro, so pleased for him. Of course he has his limitations, but he can definitely be relied on to do a job when called upon.
Yeh, really solid player. We have always seemed more secure when he has been back there in front of the back 4
I have huge respect for Derry and am happy for him that he is in the 25, but the fact that he was left out in favor of Granero (24 hours in the country and not match sharp) and Faurlin ( by his own admission only 70% fit), with then Dyer coming on late on v Citeh, is a fair indication for me that we will only see him in action when injuries and suspensions have us down to the bare bones AND we want to shut up shop. A quiet last season for him, hopefully.
Derry showed his qualities so many times last year. He can still do a job without a doubt. Pleased he is still involved.
Let's hope we will get into a few games where we want to shut up shop! I expect MH will be looking to do that if we are a goal up with an hour or so to go - then Shaun might get a few appearances off the Bench!
Great news in my opinion. Glad he will be part of the squad and even if he is not involved on the pitch, I am sure he will be a big influence in training and in the dressing room. If he does get called into action, I have no fear that he will give his all.
Very pleased that Derry is staying as he he's sane and a stabilising influence on others and of course can still play a bit.
Been a good servant to the club and could be useful when and if called upon but not on a regular basis.
He will be a great asset to us later on in those matches where the going get tough and tough gets going....It's a long season, and we need also physical players like Derry. Remember in some matches its all about fighting.
I see him as no more than a last twenty min sub when we are trying to hang onto a result. Him and hill should now be borderline subs
He won't play much at all guys , think this is sticking two fingers up at Warnock tbh. sb_73 summed it up, he is well down the order. For being in the 25 man squad he was probably number 24 or 25 on the list.
But we need him, granero hasnt played many games, Faurlin is just back after a serious injury so theres a good chance he will get game time at the moment though hopefully not for too long.
The fact that Faurlin Granero and Dyer all played on Saturday in front of him tells you where he is at (and they have another 2 weeks off) , along with Diakite and Mbia to come in i just can't see him playing 5th/6th choice CM.
Sorry, i didn't made that clear. As a fighting i really mean fighting the ball back to the team and such. Not fighting against other players with with fists and kicking them as Joey did......
