I think a driver of Hamilton's standing wants to be no.1 in the team. I have a feeling that Mclaren's attempt at bringing in two WDC-capable drivers has once again ended in tears. If Mercedes were able to persuade Schumacher that they would be able to have a tilt at the WDC I can see them convincing Hamilton. The fact that they gave certain concessions to Schumacher suggesting that he had a distinct no.1 status would also be very convincing to Hamilton I don't doubt.
So Hamilton would move to Mercedes with Rosberg as his Berger? I can't see how the current driver lineup at McLaren is ending in tears. The drivers don't seem to hate each other, the team is still pulling in the same direction, it's not like 2007 at all.
That'd be how it works in this scenario, yes. As much as I think some people have been overreacting, Hamilton's body language at Spa and at several times this season has not implied confidence in his team. The leak of the telemetry suggests that he felt extremely frustrated at the team taking him in a different - slower - direction than Button. It's been a while since I saw Hamilton and Button be particularly matey, too. Not as bad as 2007 - yet - by virtue of Hamilton not having deliberately tried to sabotage Button yet... Just personal thoughts.
I really don't know what to think about this but if I was Brawn, I'd want to get rid of both Schumi and Rosberg: there's no potential there. I'd want to get Lewis in and Hulk as number 2, though I have a horrible feeling they may have gone for the inferior di Resta. But, of course, I've no idea what is really going on.
If Nico is unable to produce the results like Lewis if he does join Mercedes then he should quickly be let go before somebody like Hulk, Di Resta, Perez, Kamui and Grosjean become hot property. I would love a Lewis + Hulk lineup.
I think that if Rosberg was going to be special, we'd have seen it by now. I'd also love a Lewis + Hulk line-up.
True, but he's an exception rather than the rule, I think. I see Rosberg more in the Heidfeld mould myself.
Judging by the way that Hamilton's management and McLaren have responded plus the lack of response from Hamilton... It may well be on the cards. Whichever way this is going to fall, I'd imagine it would have to be sewn up fairly quickly now. Maybe something firm will be announced prior to Monza?
I did hear a rumour that one of the Force India guys had already done "a big deal somewhere". I see Hulkenberg as someone who could potentially be a McLaren driver.
Considering Mercedes want to improve their brand in the world, Lewis could be the secret weapon against Audi. A Ross + Hamilton relationship would work in my opinion and considering his age a possible 2-3 WDC's up for grabs after some hard work to help make Mercedes a force in F1. Keep Rosberg for 2013 and see how he fares against Lewis. If he does crap get in a guy like Kamui, Grosjean, Perez or Hulk in for 2014.
Is Eddie Jordan the Dave Whelan of F1? Right now, wouldn't be surprised if McLaren announce a new deal with Lewis this weekend.. however, at the same time, wouldn't be surprised if he's holding up a Mercedes Scraf (ala Football singing) and confirming his signed for them this weekend! In short, no one not in the know, knows!
I will be shell shocked if this turns out to be true, it will be one of the biggest stories in F1. And one of the stupidest decisions Hamilton makes. Stay at Mclaren, keep working with the team and come up with something special, maybe not in 2013, but in 2014 with massive rule changes.
2009. Amid the changing technical regulations, Hamilton was all set to defend his championship until Mclaren gave him a duff car (although they developed very well, I distinctly remember Hamilton and Alonso's fight for 16th place at Silverstone!), while Ross Brawn came up with the best car on the grid. Bears thinking about.
http://www1.skysports.com/formula-1/news/12433/8055402/-Mercedes-offer-Hamilton-60m- WTF. This reports either Rosberg or Schumacher is being replaced. Schumacher and Hamilton teammates? Just reading the comments section of the article, some weird and wonderful assumptions on here.
