Are you on drugs?! I have literally no idea what you are talking about? He said the FIRST 50 years.......not the next 50 years, can you read?
ha ha fecking ha. I just noticed he is a Dipper fan. Should have realised he was talking about "Istoree". I remember us giving Liverpool a fair few spankings well before Roman came along, I remember a particular FA Cup match in 1997.
It is about 40 years since I last visited Stamford Bridge but I was fortunate enough to see a fantastic match which Spurs won (2-0 if I recall correctly) against a very strong Chelsea line-up.
I was lucky enough to be at WHL in 1998 when we hammered Spurs 6-1. Tore Andre Flo Hatrick. Think it was 1-1 at half time if I remember. Flo was awesome in the second half.
oh,i see you are only talking about League champions, not fa or league cups,so what did you do before football started for you when RA took over ?
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
LOL its classed as a major trophy pretty much everywhere. You play the same teams in it as you do the FA cup minus the non league dross, and winning it results in the same reward as the FA Cup, entry into the Europa League.
Fair point. In the 60s and early 70s it meant nothing but by the 80s and even 90s it was a strong competition. By the 00s CL was established as the be all and end all for all big clubs so it has been diminished. When we had our Milk cup run in 85 I went to Sheffield wed away and Sunderland away. I didn't even bother going to the league cup finals in 05 and 08. I preferred to spend my cash on Prem and CL football. Of course, that is a luxury not many fans have
Yeah, but who plays their first team before the quarter finals? Tin pot trophy, comes bang inbetween the community shield and the FA Cup in terms of prestige for me!
If we have a dip in stature, I am sure we will get excited about League cups again. The last time I got excited about the league cup was beating Arsenal when they dominated us in the 90s but I did not care about the final v Boro
There is no doubting that it is the least prestigious of the English Cup competitions, but like I said, winning it is exactly the same as the FA cup, you play the same pool of teams, you play a final at Wembley, you win a trophy and earn entry into the Europa League. How is this any different from the FA Cup. Ok so alot of the big teams wont play their strongest XI until the semi final maybe, but this is becoming increasingly common in the FA cup aswell.
To be honest even when we won the League Cup in 98 I didn't care that much, it felt like such an anti-climax given the fact we'd just won the FA Cup a year earlier and were doing so well in the league
I have a different experience of that league cup final against Boro because I was there. So I found it awesome, (plus I was 15 years old and the only other chelsea cup final I had been to was as an 11 year old when we got battered 4-0 in the 94 FA Cup final against Man Utd). Unfortunately I wasnt at Wembley in 97 to see us win the FA Cup But I remember my dad getting steaming drunk, I was only 14 and therefore too young to drink
