its been denied by hamiltons team, they have said he is more likely to sign for mclaren.also mercedes are not in a position to win championships yet. i also dont think lewis wants #1 status.i just think he wants to feel like he has the same support as his team mate. unfortunatly MW always looks alot happier whenever button wins.
Eddie Jordan has a genuine inside track, arguably more so than anyone Sky employ. I know that's a massive and unpopular statement, but when you weigh up who he knows and how tenacious he is in trying to get people to talk, the accuracy of what he is told will rival just about anyone. Unfortunately, more often that not he doesn't tell us what he was told, and instead tries to predict one step ahead based on this knowledge.
Reading that BBC report they make a damn good case for this move, but i cant believe Lewis wants to be floating around in the midfield next year. Mclaren have a championship car and will have next year due to no major regulation change.
It would be something else to see Lewis driving for another team. Jordan is usually right about these things and the BBC usually do not report these things if they aren't sure it is true. It'd be quite a scoop for the BBC...and indeed Mercedes!
Could well be a leaked story to panic McLaren into giving Hamilton what he wants? Hamiltons a good driver who probably carries a lot of sponsors with him, but who knows.
This was just tweeted from Benson. LewisHamilton's management "in advanced talks w McLaren on new deal. More importantly LH focused on Monza & competing strongly for champ" Panic aborted, for now
As others have said, EJ has been surprisingly accurate on these things before and the lack of a McLaren announcement over the summer was definitely a surprise- if Lewis and McLaren couldn't reach an agreement in those five weeks it's unlikely they ever would. Still think it would be a waste of Hamilton's talent though.
Mclaren claim Hammilton's managmet have denied it and Ted Kravitz thinks it is more likely that he will stay with Mclaren.
Eddie is very hypocritical at times, what he believes is not always of the sane nature. Hamilton is a Mclaren man, aren't they close to a new contract also? Merc would be a step backwards in car performance for him, and I could see him getting more agitated.
If Lewis went to Mercedes then he will be taking on an allmighty project. Schumacher-Ferrari-esque Is Lewis willing to wait and build? Is Lewis capeable of leading a team to build? Is Lewis ready to leave a great team like McLaren who have done many favours for him? On the mercedes side of things its win win for them and im sure the money they paid for MS is big enough for LH. But will Rosberg be alongside?
It does make sense, but I don't think Lewis is ready for a moce away from McLaren yet. Mercedes did some great behind the scenes building after last season, they have been adding good people, certainly being well lead by Ross Brawn. I do think it's it's only a matter of time before Mercedes are ahead of McLaren if McLaren stay a customer team. I also don't think that there is much building needed by Lewis, or another driver, because it's already setup and ready to become a top team. I still don't think Lewis will move.
Strangely as a Silverarrow fan I would want Lewis in Mercedes to replace Schumacher and be number 1 over Rosberg. Having a guy like Ross Brawn on your side could pay off even without a fantastic car.
McLaren back to being a customer team? The last that happened was 94, and the car that season was woeful. Maybe there is some truth to the story. Oh, but wait. I saw it was EJ saying this and immediately discarded it as rubbish. I would rather trust every other f1 journo in the world. Everyone else is saying he's going to re-sign for McLaren, it's only 1 man saying differently. I'll believe the majority thanks.
Althought I highly doubt he will be leaving McLaren it would be great to see him go there and attempt the Schumacher-Ferrari rise of the late 90's for many reasons but one of the biggest reasons as silver suggests Ross Brawn We all know If Hamilton was given the correct guidance throughout a year and his mindset was in the right place he would be on the same level as his early 2007 self. We also know Simon Fuller isn't the one to do it and Whitmarsh likes Button too much. Surely the best man for that job is indeed Ross Brawn. And with Rosberg as teammate it could all be very rosy for Hamilton there. And with Hamilton in the team, his driving ability, the media spotlight he brings and the sponsors he would bring I doubt Mercedes would be wanting to quit quite so much. The team could build and rise. Unfortunately though I doubt it will happen.
Nothing in F1s a certainty until its been catagorically denied atleast once. That said i really don't buy this one.
But Surely a driver of Hamilton's standing would want a works drive? McLaren are no longer a works team. Just a privateer, very much like "the drinks company."
