Handcycling gold... An incredible achievement!!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/disability-sport/19493510 Gotta be a movie in the making?
Really annoyed to have missed the race, but a great win for him. Fantastic to see he never stops pushing himself.
Fantastic achievement to turn something so negative into something so positive is pretty inspiring. He's a testament to how driven, hard working, competitive and committed top motorsport drivers are.
What a fantastic achievement this is. As you say, Bhaji…Zanardi ! –just has to be a film, to document one of the most courageous, brightest and shiniest lights the whole of humanity can be proud of. It is not dissimilar to Bob Champion's conquering of cancer, only to come back and win horse racing's biggest race, about whom a film has already been made. Comparisons really should stop there but I cannot resist… Perhaps because of familiarity, for me, Alex's story holds even more gravity. In a sense is even more astonishing than Bob Champion's totally unbelievable surname! After his terrible accident, Alex lost over 75% of his blood. 75%? Surely that is unsurvivable? Doctors gave him something like a 2% chance, before working their own heroics on the most determined person I have ever known (and this in a world of extremely determined people). Even after that, his chances were only estimated upwards to about 10%. Despite this, the physical aspects of his recovery are a mere shadow of his gigantic mental strength. One cannot play this down but for anyone who has had the enormous pleasure of meeting him, his achievements somehow become less astonishing each year.- - -o0o- - - Congratulations Alex: you are a truly wonderful guy. Sir, no one in sport deserves gold more than you.
45 years old, in an unfamiliar sport (he only took it up about a year or 2 ago), and he still wins. Thats a real racer. Congratulations Alex.
It doen't seem so long ago watching that horrific crash happen in Germany. The fact that he survived it is incredible, but what Alex has achieved since then is inspirational. Surely one of the greatest sportsmen of our generation.
