The Autodromo Nazionale di Monza is situated just half an hourâs drive from the companyâs Milan headquarters in the Royal Villa of Monza Park and having been inaugurated in 1922 it is one of the oldest circuits of Formula One history. The current 5.793-kilometre track is the result of many changes, but its reputation for outright speed remains, which is why the two hardest compounds in the P Zero range have been chosen: the P Zero Silver hard and P Zero White medium. This is exactly the same nomination as Spa last weekend, a track that also puts a very high energy loading through the tyres. There are three sections of the Monza circuit that place particularly heavy demands on the tyres: the first chicane, which is characterised by heavy downhill braking, the Ascari curves â with their several rapid direction changes â and the famous Parabolica, a wide, open radius corner that puts a lot of lateral stress through the tyres. On top of all these challenging corners, Monza also has some of the fastest straights of the year where the cars reach around 340 kilometres per hour, meaning that tyre temperatures can peak at up to 130 degrees centigrade. The high average speeds mean that there is potentially a lot of time to be gained by choosing exactly the right tyre for the conditions: consequently strategy will play a particularly important role at the final European race of the 2012 season. Gone for Alonso. Monza is a track that always requires special parts so current car form is ever more turned on its head. After last weekend he will be due a bit of good luck to on a track he seems to like
I'm going for Alonso for the home advantage but Button always goes well here and Hamilton will have a point to prove, which is basically my way of covering all my bases.
I think Button will do better to (maybe not win). Button always seems to do well there whilst Hamilton struggles. Then again Valencia was good(ish) this year so anything can happen.
D'Ambrosio to surprise us all and seal the win and in the process secure a Ferrari drive next year, it could just happen with the double DRS
Urgh, one of my least favourite races of the year. What I'm actually looking forward to is that this is around the time Ferrari names its driver line-up for the following year. Two years of intense speculation may be wrapped up this weekend...
That's a shame I would of thought Monza was the one race where everyone would try and get this kind of device onto their cars
Yep. It's weird how it always seems to be Monza though. In 2009 a couple of teams were in a panic about getting KERS back on their cars (Renault included), in 2010 we had Mclaren taking the F-duct off Hamilton's car (VERY unsuccessfully). Something probably happened last year as well, I forget. Must be something to do with the timing of the race, the significantly different downforce requirements, and the scheduling of it literally immediately after Spa.
Other than Mercedes I don't think we've heard about any of the other teams putting it on their cars have we?
Unfortunately not. http://www.yallaf1.com/2012/09/02/no-2013-driver-announcement-at-monza-say-ferrari/
Doesn't Monza ironically have the smallest benefit for (D)DRS since there's so little drag to shed in the first place?
Sauber could be mighty here. They were fastest in a straight line in qualifying at Spa so maybe they could pull off a suprise again but this time compete for a victory to. Imagine Perez winning at Monza. Ferrari could be impressed.....
I expect Ferrari to have a Monza spec car and Alonso has to be favourite IMO. However I have gone for Button, if he wins again it will really put the cat amongst the pigeons!
