So most Premier League clubs released their 25 man squad today...I'm sure there were some very nervous fringe players, worried that a recent run of injury or a sudden dip in form would see them axed from the side...Not so in Newcastle, we only managed 22 players, one of whom, as far as I'm aware, hasn't even featured in training photos, let alone actually played a game.

Yes, of course, I'm talking about Xisco!

With a pricetag of £5m and wages of £50k p/w he truly is one of our clubs least valuable flops. Not only has he barely scored (1) but he's barely managed to get onto the pitch, registering 9 appearances in 4 years. So what is this lad doing in our squad? Is it a case that he's finally being brought in from the NE cold? Are we trying to increase his value? Is that no-one wants him or are we simply a little bit embarrassed about only registering 21 senior players without him?

Here's the full list for those who haven't seen it:

    Thought Krul was Dutch.

Timothy Michael "Tim" Krul (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈtɪm ˈkrʏl]; born 3 April 1988) is a Dutch footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Premier League club Newcastle United and the Netherlands national team. In his home town he is known as "Bakkers Handen", which roughly translates to "Baker's hands", in reference to how 'safe' his hands are in goal.

    Now here's a dilemma......

If the Dembas have a nightmare of a season.. and Xisco steps up and get's 20 goals.... what would we do???

Don't forget that players under 21 do not have to be registered, hence players like Vuckic and Sammy aren't listed.

Yeah, but its the same for all teams...Aside from Santon, all our starters are over 21...I still think its worrying that we can only register 21 real squad players!

Would that be a Xisco Disco? An event which cost a lot to get in, but then spend all the time sat down doing nothing with a couple of foot shuffle moments on the dance floor that nobody notices?

    I totally forgot about Xisco.

But he gets payed per performance, on top of his weekly wage, doesn't he?

    Anyways, Shola is back soon.

If a player is registered with a club for three years or more from the ages of 15-21, he counts as home-grown. Hence some really odd players count, like Fabregas for example.

I belive theres also a Europa rule where you must have 3 or 4 club-grown players, who were registered at this club (e.g. Krul would count but Raylor wouldn't)

We're not the only team that hasn't registered the full 25 players. On talksport this morning of the teams they mentioned I think only QPR had 25 registered.

Yeah, I had a quick glance at the squad lists submitted, and off the top of my head, I can only think of a handful that registered 25: Villa, Stoke, West Brom, QPR and maybe Tottenham.
At first I was surprised we only had 22 registered, but it seems there's fewer with 25 than we may have thought. Arsenal, Man Utd and Citeh have loads of U-21's registered though.
