For the first time in many many years, I will be going to the footy on my own. There will be an empty seat next to me and thatâs going to be really strange. We now have a date, so Mrs Delia is off to Addenbrookes in a few days time to have a nasty bunch of tumours removed from her spinal cord, so obviously she wonât be allowed to be out and about for quite a while. These little buggers are not malignant thank god, but are putting pressure on her spinal cord, they are the size of grapes, thereâs 4 of them and they are in danger of causing permanent damage, ie severing the cord. We donât like the look of a wheel chair, so itâs a delicate operation to remove 3 of her vertebra to get at them to cut them away, and then put the vertebra back, all in all 10 hours under the knife. Absolutely incredible what these surgeons can do, they let me try on the glasses they use, which have what I can only describe as small telescopes attached, they magnify to a amazing degree and give you a horrendous headache after a very short space of time, so they work in teams of 4 at 20 minutes a time. You can identify individual nerves apparently, and the surgeon has said that she may lose one or two, but it wonât cause her too many problems, just a bit of numbness in one leg hopefully! We know what weâre up against and what the odds are, and weâre very confident of a positive outcome. She has more or less told me to carry on as normal with the football, it wonât be the same I just know that, but she is insisting we keep things as normal as possible. So I guess as her carer for the next few weekâs I wonât be on here as much as normal, but will read the posts to keep up to speed. In the meantime weâre off to the Paralympics this week, sort of a surreal experience with what is about to happen, I just hope it doesnât bring it home too much to her, but sheâs a good strong minded positive Norfolk girl and I have every confidence in her attitude! Itâs me thatâs doing most of the worrying!!
Hope all goes well with her operation fella, like you say it is amazing what surgeons can do nowadays so fingers crossed there will be no complications. I'm in a similar (though completely different) situation myself with the missus due our first little un on September 16th she's not been able to make it to any of the games so far so I've been on my own for the first time in a while - saves me a few quid at least! We also managed to get some Paralympic tickets in the end, she decided she's still just about mobile enough for that and as we live so close to Stratford it would be crazy no to so we'll be in the Olympic Stadium tomorrow night cheering on our fantastic athletes - cannot wait!!!
Give Mrs Delia all our love and best wishes and hope everything goes well and tell her we need her back at Carrow Road ASAP. We can't have empty seats now can we. I'm sure she's a lovely lady and will let you entertain us as much as you can. ATB
Don't get her too excited tomorrow night. You wouldn't want to do a Beckham and have to name the little one Row K Seat 15! ATB to the missus. Hope you're pampering her.
Tell the Missus to get well soon sir and remember at carrow road your never alone, your surrounded by your brothers and sisters united in the glory of Norwich city.
I can only echo what others have said! Tell Mrs ILD there's a large single malt here with her name on it, and munky, sorry but your wife can't drink while she's pregnant, so I'll have her's. My very best wishes to both lovely ladies!
all the best for Mrs Delias operation ILD, we'll be thinking of you all on here sounds like there are a few of us off to the paraolympics as i'm there on Saturday morning.
From all on the Ipswich Board, I hope everything goes well for Mrs ILD and we hope she can get back to the football ASAP!
Good to see sporting rivalries can be put to one side when something far more important is concerned. Echo this sentiment ILD, and that of fellow City fans above.
Best wishes to yourself and Mrs Delia. I am sending positive thoughts for her speedy recovery and return to her seat beside you at Carrow Road once the little buggers have been defeated and in the meantime some positive results to bring a smile to her face
ILD, all the very best to Mrs Delia and to you. Be sure to let her know that there's a load of people here wishing her well. Hope all goes really well & here's to a speedy post op recovery! If you get the chance, let us know how you're getting on. We'll be thinking of you. Munky, guess it could be almost anytime now, so good luck for when the time comes! Thank your lucky stars we're not still having those late goals, they could play merry hell with a pregnant womans bladder! Come to think of it, they played hell with mine too
Best wishes to the wife hope all goes well and I wish her the speediest of recoveries , you will never be alone at Carrow Road
Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Mrs ILD, she'll be in great hands there. I was due to go into Addenbrooke's for a small op on my back, but as my symptoms are now much less severe, the consultant discussed it with me and decided against it for now at least.
Thanks for your support everyone, especially from the "Binners" that's really nice of you. My wife will read this and I know it will mean so much to her! Munky, all the best to you and your wife, a new life is the greatest thing in the world, you must be very excited
I am indeed my friend, in fact I've never been so excited about anything in my life ever!! We know we're having a little girl (unless 'he' had his legs crossed during the 20 week scan!), everything is ready, the nursery is all sorted and now we just want to meet her! Apologies to piggy-back on your thread by the way ILD, but I'd also like to say thanks for the kind wishes from everyone, it means a lot Good luck to the missus once again chap, I'm sure she'll be chasing you around the bedroom in no time
Send my best wishes to Mrs D. As you probably have sussed my background is operating theatres and the advances made over the last few years are amazing (and I can tell you that things in another few years will blow you mind what they are planning!). I have worked in a neurosurgery unit before and know the unit at Addenbrookes a little. I can assure you that all theatre staff give 100% when looking after any patient. Delivering the best care is our goal and the ODPs and nurses will make sure Mrs D is well looked after.
Thoughts with you both, wishing Mrs ILD a speedy recovery. Surgeons are absolute miracle workers and I'm sure she'll be in great hands. Also, good luck to Mr and Mrs Munky, you must be very excited! Can we chose the baby's name? God bless the NHS!
