Looking at an article on the Daily Fail website, saying that "the city" is divided over Owen, as people cannot forgive his 3 years at Old Trafford. For me Owen was "persona non grarta" long before he moved to the mancs. His move to the mancs simply served as a burning example as to why the little Welsh **** was the scum of the earth. It maybe an age thing, as younger members may not remember his time here, so I'm going to lay a poll on you and gauge what the most common reason for his poor standing amongst Liverpool fans. Make as many selections as you like, it is multiple choice! It is also anonymous, so feel free to say you don't hate him.
I hate him because of the way he lied to the club and fans about signing a new contract, thus running/wasting time on his existing deal to force a move to Real. He was the top European striker at the time and we lost him for only £8m.
For deliberately running down his contract knowing he could leave for a paltry sum at the end of 2004 when he was one of the hottest strikers in European Football.
Can't/won't vote as you can only have one option and some are irrelevant. Primarily, I hate him because he demanded loyalty from the club and gave little or no loyalty back when it came to his leaving. secondly, as with Torress he threw back the support the fans had given him in their faces with his later comments. As for screwing Newcastle then perhaps that's the best thing he ever did. Nothing against Geordies - just hate their club! Couldn't give a **** if he played for United - just so long as he doesn't come back here!!!
The little **** is signing for Stoke on a pay-as-you-play deal. One place Owen will not be ending up is Anfield after the Reds informed ESPN on Tuesday that they are no longer pursuing a move to bring their former striker back to Anfield. I've never seen Torres as disloyal. He came back from the World Cup to a club in a mess. I can't blame any player for wanting out during that period - Reina was close to going, too. They weren't sure whether they'd actually finish the season in the PL and Rafa had been sacked. So loyalty was shown during the summer of 2010 by all who stayed. It's a shame by the time Kenny took over that the future was already determined and you have to acknowledge, as much as it hurts, that Torres got what he left for. And we got £50m, which was a nice leaving present from him. If we hadn't been in such a mess I doubt he'd have left. There was no such mess for Owen and he was hardly loved by us before he went to Utd but going felt like he was deliberately trying to be a wum. So **** him and his horses. And **** Brendan for even daring to think about bringing him in to cover whoever's incompetence left us with two strikers.
This ^ (although the club was at fault there as well for not getting their heads around Bosman) Secondly when he had the chance to return he went to Newcastle because "they rolled out the red carpet for him" Hold on Michael...didn't LFC pay you so much you managed to buy half the property in North Wales?? Then you expected us to roll out the red carpet for you?? Cheeky ****. Hated him long before he went to the manks. A local(ish) lad who had that mentality that just didn't have any notion of loyalty bred into him.
Forgot about that... but if I recall the real reason was that Newcastle were happy to give Madrid stupid money, while we weren't. But he tried to cover his money grabbing ways by having a go at us for not giving him a hug. ****.
I hate Owen because he is a smug little C**t who leaches on to teams until he gets what he wants then he f**ks off.. Examples: - Liverpool - Wouldnt be where he was without them however he decides to leave them for RM Newcastle - Left when the going got tough.. (removing those wage leaches was the best thing that ever happened to us) RM & Man U didnt really give him the light of day to mess them around as he was basically either not playing or he was on their terms... Now he thinks he is too good for a championship side and will only go to a premier league club... Hope he goes to stoke and rots away... Apart from that all the best...
I've no problem with Torres leaving, its the manner in which he left that I've a problem with. He left it until the last minute to look for a move, and then had the audacity to say he was at a ''bigger club'' when he joined Chelsea. If he was going to move, why not look for a move at the START OF THE WINDOW, secondly there will be a cold day in hell before Chelsea are a bigger club than Liverpool. Chelsea aren't even the biggest club in London, whereas Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world. As for Owen, He's a scrote of the highest order. First he ****ed us about when he left, Rafa did the right thing by packing his bags for him. Then he committed a mortal sin by joining Manchester United. Newcastle fans should be upset with him too. He cost them in the region of £38 million, between signing and wages which were unearned. All Owen is useful now is those cringeworthy AON Insurance adds, which saves electricity, and he makes people want to turn their televisions off.
Even I read that bit Dave and I don't usually get much further than the first line of a thread before launching into a rant I thought it was very clear Noble....Dave you should have gone to Specsavers Did I mention Owen's a horrible, slimey, devious ****?
i have nothing against Owen. carried the team for four seasons and was continually promised jam tomorrow. Gerrard had itchy feet too at the time. Oh how we've moved on.
Posted this on the Sunderland board in reply to a thread where the OP was claiming Liverpool's fans problems with Owen were due to him playing for Man Utd.
So I see the majority agree with my POV that it was his piss poor treatment of the club that made him that makes him such a loathsome little ****. The manc thing wasn't that far behind, and I wonder how it would have been if everyone only had one choice, and had to pick the thing that annoyed then the most.
