Mouser Watch #2

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Hoddle is a god, May 26, 2012.

  1. Slagging-off, per se, won't be on-topic. I don't want this to be a character-assignation thread against the Mousers. That would be unfair, and beneath us all; nor would it be in keeping with the unbiased, objective perspective that I want to encourage.

However, if the slagging-off is done within the context of revealing aspects of Mouser delusion, then I think it is probably okay.

For example, I have often pointed out how the Mousers still consider the likes of Tom O'Connor, Jimmy Tarbuck, and Carla Lane Comedies to funny and relevant, event though the likes of Jasper Carrott, Alexi Sayle and Ben Elton have come and gone, and we now have the likes of Chubby Brown and Jethro showing us what modern observational comedy is all about.

Excellent - I was thinking very much along the same lines as you in terms of music- the lionisation of very average bands such as the Beatles, Gerry and the Pacemakers and The Farm is a phenomenon which is very similar to the way that the support of LFC still clings to past glories - the quality of the achievements in the minds of the support always seem to get bigger by the year in the hope that we'll have forgotten them so won't ever question it. The likes of Let it Be, You'll Never walk Alone, Hey Jude, Ferry across the Mersey and Altogther Now are unambitious, self undulgent dirges which have all the creativity of the engalnd midfield.......

THE BEATLES!!! Where's that bloody ignore button when you need it. Now Cilla Black and you're talking. The Lionisation of the Farm didn't reach me, I've never heard of them?

You'd have a point about Chas and Dave but they're seen as a novelty sort of comedy group. I'm talking about alleged legends - I'd happily compare the iconic London acts with those from Merseyside any day of the week but it would be like taking on a one legged man in an arse kicking contest.

Bwendan was very clever going in with his 'I'll give my life....." bs to get the fans onside. Even though they've had their worst start for over 50 years the fans aren't blaming him but the owners for letting Carroll go even though Bwendan said he didn't want him several times. Rafa did the same sort of thing with his singing along to that Rogers and Hammerstein musical ****.Seems if you tell the fans what they want to hear you're a legend but tell them the truth, like Roy did,and you're castigated beyond belief.

It's not usually in my nature to give Liverpool FC fans the benefit of the doubt or to be fair to them. However, I think if any club found themselves in the current postion whereby, amongother things, very costly strikers were sent out on loan without any being bought in as replacements then of course the fans are going to turn on either the board or the manager. As a neutral with no agnda or axe to grind andin the interests of continuing the very balanced discussions on here I won't criticise them for that.

Calls to bring back Kenny Dalglish are embarrassing but I suspect that it's not representative of the view of the majority of season ticket holdrers - they're probably all hanging out for Pep Guardiola.

  10. My view on their striker situation is that they should swallow their pride and beg Owen to come back to them.

I know this is probably not a popular view among some Mousers, given that he left 'Pool in 2004 for a mere £8m, when he was European Football Player of the year and worth around £25m, but I would suggest to the reluctant Mouser that, really, 'Pool has no choice. Yes, you would like a top striker to go to your club, but after what your Yank owner said recently, you know full well that you simply do not have the cash to splash on anyone decent.

And Owen isn't that bad. Yes, he'll never give you 90 mins, and, all right, he'll probably only play about 5 games for you (from the subs bench) during the entire season, but his one or (at a push) two goals could be the difference between relegation or survival.

And, I tell you what, if it's Owen's goal that stops you going down on the last match of the season, you'll be out on them streets partying like it was 1977 (dancing to Cilla Black records).

Dancing to who Hod? Owen is finished. Can you honestly see him saving Liverpool? I can't,they're in a lot of trouble. I cannot remember one manager who took a team up from the lower division be successful at a bigger club except Harry. He was good at taking teams up but if you think of the others like Jewell, well they don't compare. Liverpool have made a mistake with Rodgers because he took Swansea up,well big deal.

Arthur Rowe and Brian Clough would like a word...but you'd need to arrange a seance first.

  15. Oh, has he? So, he's decided to go to a club with ambition, has he? Can't say I blame him, really.

Reported on Twitter from by Tancredi Palmeri, Del Piero has turned down Liverpool because 'the offer arrived too late' and he had already promised Sydney. Couldn't make it up could you?

Arthur who Croydon? No, Clough brought Forest up and stayed with them,he didn't change clubs which is different than what I'm saying. Clubs seem attracted to unknown coaches who bring a team up to the PL. That team normally goes down again very quickly ie Reading under Stevie Coppell and Blackpool under I can't remember.

Arthur Rowe, Spurs' manager when we won the Second Division in 1950, and the First Division in 1951.

Clough moved from Brighton to Forest, so he certainly counts, as does Burkinshaw who'd managed Workington Town and Scunthorpe before joining us, and Pardew seems to be doing alright at the moment.

I get the feeling that when Bwendan said he wanted to lift the trophies Shanks had lifted that he actually means the same trophy and is heading down to the Championship to do it :smiley-finger007:
