Sterling has a bright future, but the amount he is being overrated is ridiculous.

    future england XI

    -----------------Hart
    Walker----Smalling----Jones----Gibbs
    -----------Barkley---Rodwell--------
    ---------------Wilshere-------------
    Chaimberlain---Welbeck------Sterling

Subs: Butland, Richards, Bertrand, Gardner, Sturridge, Walcott, Carroll

I'd put Shelvey in ahead of one of Rodwell or Barkley but that's a good side.

Sterling is also 17... he's still with the U-19s I believe. Along with Adam Morgan.

Why do people keep putting Jones and now Smalling in?

That clip of Rodgers giving Sterling a dressing-down about his attitude in front of the whole squad is why youngsters have to be handled properly. That's the crap we don't normally see - Tom Ince seemed to have his dad's arrogance and was moved on. Youngsters' heads are their worst organs. There are plenty who've fallen by the wayside because of too much expectation or too much attention going to their heads.

    Definitely.

On Smalling and Jones, they're good players, for United or not. Well known that Kenny wanted Jones last summer too.

Smalling is way better than jones, but jones also has potential. who else do we have as a young CB?

Yeah and it seems his first choice was Young instead of Downing, had that come off I think his transfer record would have looked a lot better. purely the fact Young would have suited the current system better would have meant value for money!

Whilst I agree, you have to get the balance right. Making an example of a young player in front of others can backfire and leave you looking like guy with no backbone or 'small man syndrome' , of course it all depends on respect, but if you seem genuine and its for the good of the club rather than some selfish, ego trip then it stands a good chance of being received well! Unfortunately you can also look a bit of a knob, look at Di Canio for an example!

    Best comment so far.
We also had David Amoo who seemed to have the same arrogant atitude as Tom Ince. Both Amoo and Ince blitzed their way through the under 18s but got complacent when they got into the reserves. Raheem Sterling blitzed the under 18s at 15, the reserves were a doddle to him at 16, he needed to be reigned in because up until that point it was pretty easy for him. He got cheeky because he's only a kid. Brendan Rodgers did the right thing by slamming him in public and ensuring he keeps his feet on the ground.

Has it worked? Sure it has. He's been impressive since that point, and he's getting his just rewards. Thats brilliant man management. Had it been done with other players earlier i.e. Theo Walcott, Ravel Morrison, then there would be more talented kids coming through at clubs. Its just my opinon that Walcott has not improved since he was 17. He's unfulfilled that potential. Non Manchester United fans would say the same thing about Rooney, he had the potential to be a world star, but has not fulfilled it.

It's a shame about Ince - I was a big fan and I thought he could be a good player for us. I was unsure as to why the club would sell him but if it was to do with his attitude then fair enough.

Rodgers has a lot of experience as a youth team coach and this should hopefully help us as we may need to rely on the youngsters for the first team.

The public dressing down of Sterling was refreshing to see. Put him in his place but credit to Sterling for responding back in the right way - on the pitch. It was also good to see him point to Adam Morgan and using him as the example/template of hard work, determination and positive attitude.

    Thats an excellent analysis.
We've seen both Raheem Sterling and Adam Morgan get promotions due to their atitude/improved atitude. However there is the other side, there is Andre Wisdom and Suso. These two this season had a massive chance to put a claim in, both haven't. Suso has been moaning like a little girl, (I have seen the tweets) and I don't know what the story is with Wisdom. If I can remember correctly, Jordan Ibe impressed big time during pre-season, the only reason he wasn't included, is because he's only 16.

Again, it's a real shame if this was the case with Suso and Wisdom as I rate them both very highly. Suso could be our David Silva/Mata/Modric. Problem is, where would we play him? I see Allen and Sahin would command 2 out of the 3 midfield positions and then Shelvey and Henderson would be front runners for the final place (Excluded Lucas as he is currently out injured).

From what I saw in pre-season, Jordan Ibe is one for the future but still extremely raw and needs to work on his output and decision making (which will come with time hopefully). I can't see him pushing for a place just yet. Jerome Sinclair is another one ...

I hadn't noticed. Don't always get the chance to follow up on comments. Normally threads gets wummed the **** out of them, so by the time I look back 10 pages have gone by. I'll refer to him as ****beck from now on to avoid any confusion.

After all of the racism claims between our clubs <laugh>

Doubt he'd mean to, in all fairness... Not to mention, jaffakop doesn't seem like the kind of person to just rile people up intentionally, even if it is the Man U supporters. :p
