Beckford's strength is as a lone striker playing counter attack football - i.e. beating the offside trap. We don't play like that - we play more direct and with 2 at the top and so Beckford has to be more of a team player which he is not.
.. you think a goal will change his general attitude? ... unfortunately for jermaine his ego badly outstrips his ability .. admittedly we have never really played him off a big man (like one of the Leeds fans suggested) and that might just see him at his most effective ... but in games where he has had to receive the ball anywhere other than in front of him in the penalty area he msotly mis-controls to the point that he starts making first time flicks to cover up his obvious weakness ... for me that is why I can't really see him in the Prem where you need to be able to control the ball and also play with your back to goal a lot more ..
I dont understand why people have been saying that all summer. With people like Mills, Bamba, Beckford etc we was only finishing 9th and 10th the season before So they cant have been that good
That really isn't his strength and was certainly not how he was successful at leeds and when he started to hit form with Everton he wasn't playing like that either. To say this just shows me you guys still haven't figured out how to utilise him. I think he is wasting away at leicester at the moment and needs to find somewhere else to play his football As Simon says, play him off a big man and he'll do very well
I don't see how playing him in a different formation is going to improve his temperament or stop him from fluffing his shots and blaming someone else. Face it, you had him a Leeds when he was on the way to making a name for himself. When he "made it", he let his ego get in the way. Now he probably thinks he is at a club that is beneath him in a team that is beneath him. Beckford is the only one who can help himself. If he can get himself in the right place mentally, he could become a player again. But there's little Pearson can do other than offer support, which he appears to do very well with the hugs and arms around the shoulders etc.
He always had an ego problem at leeds. Throughout his whole life he has but he isn't fitting in with Leicester, he is IMO capable of scoring 25 goals in this league and I think if he were playing next to Becchio (as much as I hate to say it) or someone else in that mould he would easily get that but you guys seem to play him next to another 'goal poacher' type player in Nugent and now Vardy and expect them both to score plenty of goals
If we are going to loan Beckford to Huddersfield we need to make sure there is a 24 hour recall clause put in there. Last thing we want is what happened with DJ Campbell where he is scoring loads of goals and puts another team into the play offs. Albeit we made the play offs aswell that year its not very clever helping out a rival. So come around March time should Beckford be banging in goals and Huddersfield are doing well we simply just call him back
