To be honest I was surprised he gave the penalty first time, but unfortunately Hooiveld did foul RVP. Can't think of anything else controvertial. It was a quiet day from a refs point of view. But as flt says, his first touch needs work.

You can expect that to happen regularly. The refs in the PL are keen to play advantage, and there is no problem with that. The ref was OK, I was furious when the penalty was awarded but when I watched it again it was a penalty.

The Push on Rodders right at the end is one of those that could go either way. If the ref had a clear view of it he would have given it in my opinion. I am surprise the assistant didn't flag though......but how often do they.

I thought the ref did a pretty good job! Kept the game flowing and although he got in the way once and could possibly have given us a penalty at the end, his decisions were pretty much spot on. It's a physical game and "bullying" does occur - it's just for the ref to ensure it doesn't get nasty (like what happened to Ian Hume)

Probably instructed not to flag. Assistants generally get asked to flag for fouls in their "quarter of the pitch". That is, from the edge of the penalty area to the touchline in their half.

Mike Dean has been and always will be average. Puts in shocking performances regularly - he gave bad decisions for and against us yesterday. Gave us freekicks for almost nothing, and vice-versa.

how about the freekick lambert won when he looked at vidic who was looking at the ball, then moved in front and blocked vidic as he challenged for the ball. this is a freekick to man utd all day long but you got that one.

Rickie dominated Vidic and Ferdinand yesterday. Bossed them. Taught them a ****ing lesson.

So, so good to see Rickie take his Premier League chance with both hands. Love the guy.

i didnt say he didnt play well but just an observation from the game seen as though your fellow fans are complaining about the ref, which if you watch the replay you will see how he fouled vidic.

No way man, Vidic was caught napping out of position, that's great forward play and a free kick to Saints. Anyway it was the only free kick we got in the first half so I wouldn't worry too much

He just moved back to try and make sure he won the ball, not his fault Vidic is weak as **** in comparison.

    Rickie is a tank.

as a qualified referee i can safely say that by backing into an opponent is just as much of a foul as jumping into the back of an opponent. vidic had eyes fixed on the ball where as lambert only had eyes for vidic. therefore playing the man and not the ball. this is a foul in modern day football. learn the laws of the game before commenting.

In my day it was known as blocking and yes it was deliberate on Ricky's behalf.....you are right it was Ricky committing the foul in my book. The Ref however didn't see it that way..........

I thought he let the game flow & let some strong challenges go. No complaints from me.

I'm not a ref expert, but who do you think is the best referee? Howard Webb I would have thought, but he's always giving penalties. What about that chubby one whose name I don't know?

The Ref was Mike Dean. He's generally pretty good. From what I've seen he had a pretty good game.

He looks as if he's been playing in it for years. This league holds no problems for him. Give him the service and he'll take the PL by storm.

I thought about what you said about us having soft free kicks, so I did a bit of research, Man U were penalised four times for fouls, Tom Cleverly on Lalana (not a doubt about it), Vidic on Lambert twice (climbing and holding, never in doubt), Carrick on Mayuka (not so clear cut as he went down a bit to easily), nowt soft about any of them. On the other hand there were a few questionable tackles not penalised and a foul on JRod near the end may have resulted in a penalty in a different game. The Referee was not noticeable for much of the game, gave one yellow card to Hoover, as far as I am concerned it was about a 7 out 10 performance. The teams helped by keeping their discipline at all times.

I found myself cheering as much for Rickie as for each of his goals. Just the whole progress up the leagues and hitting the big time and then to score against the teams he has is so good for him. I hope he gets many more. I used to bet on him to score when he was at Brizzle Rovers and continued that trend the second he joined Saints. LEGEND.
