Umbro have been losing money for years and Nike announced recently that they were looking to flog it as soon as possible. Ahead of doing so, they've now taken over the England kit sponsorship deal, along with the sponsorship of Wembley Stadium and the Nation Football Centre. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2197508/Nike-replace-Umbro-England-kits.html
I can't see them lasting much longer which is a shame really. I was having this conversation with her indoors just the other day and the future certainly looks bleak for Umbro. I'd have thought the England deal was their biggest earner. Without that they're probably stuffed.
I agree, it is probably the beginning of the end for Umbro, which is a shame. For the last 5 or so years of me playing I always had Umbro boots, which were always very good. As an aside, how bad is that photoshopping of the Nike swoosh on the England shirt???
It will be a sad day if they no longer continue, certainly a brand I grow up with, and you never like to see such a famous brand disappear.
This is what happens when control of a company moves abroad. Rowntrees huge chunks of production moved to Switzerland when Nestle took them over. Terry's factory is as good as gone and no doubt Cadbury will go the same way, Kraft have already move some production to the States, and don't get me going about BAE systems. I know they are still controlled over here but a large percentage of their senior management are ****ing Yanks.
Kraft is an american company isn't it and always was , i know there was only a limited number of brands marketed over here by Kraft
Which is why I said started. They had a bit too much of an outcry over the Keynsham (sp?) closure to get away with doing it too quickly without losing public image.
I think it needs to be discussed, there's a tendency for some to just Schweppes these things under the carpet...
When it comes to the crunchie it's all about the money this business lark. Yeah all right that was ****e
