Fair comments OS, I know you know a lot about keepers, but I've given my views on the problems with Friedel and why every goal so far he could have done better on. Also I didn't rate Robbo towards the end, partly because he was poor at crosses, like Friedel, poor at saving pens, like Friedel, and poor at being beaten by long shots, Friedel isn't so bad yet as he was, but he's getting that way. i am convinced Lloris wil do better on crosses than Brad, because I think Brad is poor at dealing with them. Doubtless you know better than me, but let's see what happens when Lloris comes in. PS if harry had stayed and got Carroll in, what a coup that would have been, far better than the embarrassment of JD as lone striker.
Unless Friedel makes a few Gomes type howlers, I see Friedel keeping the No1 position in the league this season and Lloris playing in Europe and in the domestic cups. It's a nice position to be in though. 2 quality keepers battling for the shirt with Cudicini in the wings if needed.
I can, I will, and I have! I don't believe that stat deedub, or what I'm seeing isn't included in that stat. Example, he's marking someone but not touch tight, he then ball watches the cross, opponent drags away, he turns to see where his mans gone, then by the time he's looked back to the ball, he's lost the flight of it, he keeps getting caught in no-mans land with it sailing over his head. Plus, I only pointed his aerial problem atm, he's been solid enough on the floor, so don't think I've criticised the player's performance overall.
I so hope this isn't the case, what a come down for Lloris, and also we'll keep leaking goals because of Brad's 'stay on the line' philosophy. I also would hope that Lloris a better shot stopper than Brad, I think he is, but can't prove that. Brad doesn't make Gomes type howlers, but surely Lloris is a better keeper than him. He's captain of France and rated by many as amongst the best in the world. I accept that he might need a Cup game to get him bedded in, but I'd hope and want him to be No.1 by October.
We can't be pandering (sp?) to Brad Friedel. The guy is 41 and seems intelligent enough. He knows he is towards the end of his career. I can't see him having a sulk if he's replaced by a better keeper. Keeping Lloris on the bench all year is just likely to piss the guy off and by all accounts he is 1 of our 2 world class players. He won't get tired by the end of the season so lets get the guy on the pitch and influencing games as much as possible.
It's the keepers job to stop the ball going in. I've seen a stack of keepers save their teams against us. Lloris is a good keeper. Thank you Brad for doing your job but that's all you've done. You've done no more than expected. I say Lloris when we start to get more confidence. It's striking we need and I'd bring him in when we are in a more secure position.
Unless I'm mistaken, Brad has saved us from 2 defeats in the last 2 games. I'd look to the outfield players giving him protection. I would disagree about lobbing Lloris straight in that the deep end, its been the ruin of many a keeper. Whatever the situation is,it would have been clearly outlined before Lloris put pen to paper, so I would not worry about how things appear to him.
The only goal I would "blame" Friedel for is Demba Ba's goal. I think Gomes would have got that, he seemed a bit flat footed to me. Overall he has been excellent and deserves to extend his run for a while before Lloris is eased in later in the year.
No keeper in the World would have saved that. I'd blame him more for not taking VDV's advice for the penalty
I suspect a fair few keepers might well have saved Ba's shot, including Gomes and Lloris, I think they would have got nearer to it anyway. But it's Brad stay on the line tactic the worries me. Oppo players know they can have a field day by putting in high crosses in against us, without Dawson heading them away we are very vulnerable to those crosses.
For days you've been banging on about Fridel not coming from crosses, yet now you're balaming the absence of Dawson !!! And on what possible grounds are you going to elaborate as to what you think Friedel was doing wrong not to get near Ba's shot, as apparantly Gomes and Lloris would have done ?? Not sure how much you've seen of Lloris, but believe me, he is not strong on coming for crosses.
I'd have to agree with Ghoddle about the absence of Dawson. Without him or the injured Kaboul in the side, we do lack physical presence at the back and I think we're more vulnerable aerially as a result. Lloris definitely looks a bit De Gea-esque though, so I don't think that his introduction will help things on that front. I'm hoping that Vertonghen will be paired up with Dawson soon, especially as I think that Gallas and Caulker will make a handy partnership for cup games. The youngster can learn a hell of a lot by playing alongside someone with the Frenchman's pedigree, particularly against non-English sides.
I think you'll see Caulker paired with JV first, even if another is injured, I'll bet Daws would still only make the bench. EL is the earliest you'll see Daws in a Spurs shirt. This imo based on AVB's decisions so far, not my own footballing opinion.
And I will continue banging on about it while he's our keeper, and I will continue banging on about Dawson's absence while we continue to concede goals from crosses. If you don't like that, fine, but if it happens again against Reading you'll hear more of the same. My grounds re Ba is that undoubtedly Gomes has more chance of a 'miracle save' than Friedel when it comes to long range shots, and from what I understand Lloris has the same capacity. As for his dealing with crosses we'll see on that, he might be as bad or worse than Brad, then we'll be in trouble. Hopefully we'll be better, and if we get Dawson in too, we stop conceding so many goals from crosses.
Cheers PNP, if we have shaky keepr(s) on Crosses then we ned someone like Dawson. AVB might go for Caulker, at least he would be an improvement on Gallasr, but to me Daws is the answer ATM.
This debate isn't about Dawson, it's about me asking you why you feel Gomes would have saved a shot which Friedel didn't. Why has Gomes 'undoubtedly' more of a chance of a 'miracle save' tahn Friedel ?? Instead of fobbing me off, at least attempt to answer my question.
