(Bear in mind these are only my opinions) Brenadan Rodgers joine Liverpool on the premsie that HE would have total control over team affairs and that he would not consider working under a DoF. If this is the case surely he must shoulder the responsibility of no new faces coming in! He is the man who takes care of the team and he is the one who brokers the deals, they were his words when he joined the club so why now all of a sudden do we find ourselves centre of speculation about Ian Ayre leaving the club? If BR wants total control then he is the one who answers to the fans about why we don't have a recgonised striker in the squad. I don't buy in to the blame shifting bollocks we have now been subject to for what be 7-8 years. The **** should stop now! We fans shouldn't be embarrassed when walking into work on a Monday morning because someone at our 'beloved' club can't do their job right. The scary thing is, by BR' own admission, we will see these results constantly until the team learns to play 'his way' HANG ON A MINUTE!! Liverpool were playing this way for years so why should it take them that long to work it out. This needs to stop or, as someone else has posted on another thread, we may find ourselves at the wrong end of the league table come May! This may come across as negative but I honestly can't find any positives this morning following a disasterous transfer window. Someone also said, we only had one 'attack' minded player on the bench yesterday in Downing and that it may have been BR's attempt to show FSG what they are doing - NO, you don't point score at the cost of ****ing us up! This needs sorting and it needs sorting now - Come on Rodgers, pull your finger out lad!
The Times reports that the owners did not want to invest in a 29 year old, but were willing to pay for Sturridge. Rodgers was adament on signing Dempsey. I don't think he has total control ...
The problem we have now is that when the transfer window opens in January, we're gonna get raped! A N Other Club "Liverpool have been in touch they want 'XYZ Player who is worth about £15 mil!" "Well tell em he's available for £35 mil!" You can see it now - We've made a rod for own back. Had we brought in a striker, we could have looked to compliment that guy by maybe adding another to the squad in January. Now we need another striker in Jan we'll have to pay over the odds for anything that is available. Why do we keep stumbling from one embarrassment to another?
Hmm I'm not so sure. Whilst the January window is usually inflated, I think we have become tighter when it comes to negotiations. This was shown when we refused to budge on Sigurdsson's wages, and not being bullied by Fulham (who wanted us to pay a higher fee than Spurs and Aston Villa for Dempsey). What we desperately need is a leader - Ian Ayre just doesn't fill me with any confidence. He is an extremely good businessman re. commercial side of the club but lacks the savvy when it comes to leadership. Where was he during the Suarez affair etc? We need a David Dein/David Gill type figure to lead us.
Don't accept for a second that this isn't down to Rodgers. He is the one who claimed to have full responsibility! As for the Jan transfer window, it works one way - We pay what the selling club ask or we don't get a striker! We don't get a striker we are in the exact same position we are now and have been for several years. We should have brought in another striker whilst Torres was still here due to his injuries but we ****ed about then and we're still doing it now! Nothing ever changes at LFC we are now a laughing stock everyone loves to come and play against! Rodgers said he wanted to make it 'Fortress Anfield' Well done so far mate, cracking job!
And Sturridge didn't want to come on loan, only bought outright - which leads me to believe Chav$ki were holding us to ransom on him and asking for stupid amounts for a frankly underwhelming striker
I think it's good that we're not being held to ransom anymore but we must have had more targets lined up? ...
Surely as the manager you'd hang around and pester the powerbrokers until a signing was made if, like he said he didn't have full control! If he was that worried about not having enough players he'd be constantly on the phone to Ayre saying "HAs he signed yet? Have you closed the deal?" That is why it doesn't stack up to me!
I think it's starting to sink in that we're no longer as a attractive as we used to be. Not only are we restricted by what we can spend, but now also by wages AND whether the player even wants to come to us. It's still no excuse for having NO front man but it's reason enough for why Damiao and the rest aren't going to come to us with a click of a finger
Doesn't mean he's got it though, does it? And he isn't the one signing the cheques. By 'full responsibility' he means he's in charge of selecting the players he wants brought in, and has a say on the terms of the deal. However, he doesn't, nor can he, sign the deals off. If the owners don't want to pay for a player, Rodgers won't be able to get him.
Sturridge was a no go because Chelsea needed him. Torres would have ended up as their only striker, and we can say better than any one that that wouldnt end well.
I still dont get why we insist on trying to buy from other EPL teams. We got buttfucked by Sunderland, Newcastle and Villa and yet we turn to Fulham hoping to get one of their 'star' players for cheap... Never gonna happen. This idea of buying players with Prem experience is bull, if the player is good enough then they will flourish. Why didnt we take advantage of financially struggling teams like Malaga or Valencia, we could have even used the draw of the EPL to get a genuine talent in the way Newcastle have done with Cisse and Cabaye (Newcastle was hardly the most attractive club and these players were highly sought after)
Regarding this issue, my Liverpool reporter mate had an hour long 'off the record' telephone conversation with BR after the window had shut. BR phoned him! He was absolutely furious that he didn't get either Sturridge or Dempsey. Apparently we put a bid in of 3 million for Dempsey, so we were never going to get him with that paltry amount. My mate said he sounded genuinely depressed - not good!
It still baffles me. It must be due to the fact that we have a British manager who knows the British market, therefore he is more comfortable buying players from here. Rafa was the same with Spanish market, Houllier with the French market.
