Good tweet from this journo _________________________________ @ iainmacintosh Anyone caught calling for the head of a new manager after just three games should be banned from watching football forever.
For both of you, your memory fails you. There are two reasons why he failed with us: 1 The first casualty of the Flavio era. 2 More importantly, Ray Jones. The team went to pieces when he died. I remember the same happening at Luton when their player collapsed before a game. Before then they were an outside bet for promotion to the Prem. After it, they got walloped regularly and were relegated at the end of the season. We were a club with no money and adrift at the bottom when Gregory took over. He took us into mid-table safety by the end of the season. In the close season, Flavio arrived. JG bought Leigertwood with Flavio's money and then Ray Jones died His is a classic tale of what happens when owners hit the panic button after 2 or 3 games. Had he been given a chance, who knows what would have happened.
Back to the OP - seeing we were up against City his starting 11 seemed about right to me, it was his bench without Adel in particular that concernd me. When we should have been chasing the game a goal down in the 2nd half MH didn't react - is he happy to lose by a goal? Probably not, but it almost seemed like it. Cisse for Johnson, Adel for Ale, Hoillet for Park early in the 2nd half would have given us a better chance of a point.
No offence Yorkie but I think your memory is playing tricks with you an' all! Firstly, we didn't finish mid-table but he did well guaranteeing safety with that home win over Cardiff with two to play. Leed's points deduction at the end made our final position look more secure than it actually was. Secondly, it wasn't after 2 or 3 games. If I remember correctly, we were 8 games in with 3 points on board when he was sacked, the last straw being a 5-1 thumping at West Brom where he insisted on playing Zesh Rehman who was at fault for 3 of the goals. In fact, it was a much worse start to the season than Waddock had the year before! Thirdly, the sacking proved to be the right decision because when Harford stepped in, he changed the team entirely and dropped that useless cu*t Rehman and we got some great results during his short reign. Finally, .......................... Mikele Leighterwood? Are you taking the piss? P.S. We already had had our worst start to the season in decades before Ray Jones died so that wasn't it. The man behind Gregory's demise was not Ray Jones, it was Zesh Rehman!
