Once you've ran, do a brisk walk for however many minutes it takes to bring you up to 30 mins total of exercise. It'll pay off.

jogging's for chumps IMO; boring, takes ages, doesnt use many calories up compared to other forms of exercise, and doesnt give you a good body composition (compare the physique of a marathon runner to that of a sprinter.)

. Weights/HIIT(high intensity interval training) is the way forward; so if you want to do running do 1min sprinting, 1min walking or whatever, rinse and repeat(high intensity intervals).

    here's an excellent FAQ: http://www.reddit.com/help/faqs/Fitness
check out starting strength/stronglifts for a beginners weightlifting.

How do you go about gaining weight? I've been using some protein shakes and i am fit (to an extent) and i play footy 3 times a week.

Protein shakes aren't magic. You need to eat a lot, including plenty of protein in your diet negates the need for shakes, and combined it with a programme like stronglifts 5x5.

Disagree with this! Running burns calories amazingly well...It may not be everyone's cup of tea (I used to hate it) but once you can comfortably run 3-5 miles, the endorphin rush you get when you get a 2nd wind (or a decent tune comes on your ipod) is quality! My Dad would use a run as a form of stress relief, I just do it to keep fit, but I can understand what he means!

Personally I like a bit of a variety and as you say, doing a few things is the way forward in terms of getting fit!

count calories, you'll need to be eating about 1000kcal a day over your maintenance (i.e. how much you need to eat to maintain your current weight)work out your maintenance here. Personally i'd supplement playing football with some weights too, to throw some added strength into the bargain.

there's some decent bodyweight programs about; convict conditioning is the one i always hear touted if you can be arsed to give that a go. Otherwise I'd do some HIIT sprinting/swimming*.

*I was considering doing some HIIT swimming over the summer, better for the joints, and builds up back and shoulder muscles.
