PLEASE BE NICE ______________________________________________________________________________ http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/102185 1 race ban for Grosjean - A little harsh considering what some other drivers have done this year! Stupid it may have been but we have seen some deliberate actions this year!
1 race ban? wow its been a long time since we have seen a penalty of that magnitude in F1. Hopefully he learns this time.
That's unbelievably harsh, especially when you consider what others have gotten away with in the past (Schumacher on Barrichello, Maldonado deliberately crashing into people). Other people have pulled manoeuvres like that at the start and it hasn't resulted in a crash or a penalty of any kind. They seem to be punishing the result rather than the actions themselves.
Yeh I'd have to agree with you there - his actions were more of inexperience rather than a deliberate action to make contact! It seems because of the magnitude of the outcome they have decided to impose a hefty penalty. For me whilst I do think Grosjean was to blame it was someting we see regularly at the starts of GP's, drivers cutting others up (Vettle on Jenson in Japan?????) it just so happens that certain drivers wont lift (I'm not saying Lewis should have) and the inevitable happens! The main thing is that nobody was hurt and I feel for Alonso and the Saubers more than anything because they were ultimatlety the victim of somebody elses coming together.
I'm glad that people agree with me that that punishment is quite simply stupid unless the FIA intend to follow it up with a similar ban for Maldonado. EDIT: The only upshot is that it will perhaps stop Bernie from claiming that La Source is too dangerous to have in F1.
what? a race ban??? and maldo never got one?? **** sake! I was surely more of a racing incident. he didnt really break any rules it was just being clumsy
I want Maldo Banned too, but isnt there something that the stewards can only give sanctions for what happens that single race weekend, not what has happened over several weekends. Although if Maldonado was a school boy he would be expelled...
It was definitely Grosjean's manoeuvre that caused the crash but, in mitigation: With a 5 week break between races all the drivers are out of practice with race starts and the instant and instinctive reactions that often help to avoid collisions. When Grosjean and Hamilton's tyres made contact (breaking Hamilton's suspension) there was still empty tarmac to the right of the McLaren. It was not Hamilton's fault, but maybe if he had been at his most "switched on" he would have reacted to avoid the contact instead of just aiming for the corner and holding his own line.
I did want to raise this point but while there was free tarmac, there wasn't enough empty tarmac next to Hamilton to avoid the incident, because his wheel ended up wrapped around Grosjean's.
True, but it just looked to me as though Hamilton was aiming for the corner and not reacting. It's dangerous to speculate on the basis of a few yards of racing, but I can't help wondering if the 5 week break can't have helped, poor qualifying, daft tweets, contract uncertainties, etc, have taken the edge off his style.
Are you simple? Romain has been causing collisions as far back as Malaysia. About time something done, shame Pastor and his megabux are given the preference. What has F1 come to.
It's a good point that Grosjean has been in F1 for a while and has no excuse. Why Maldonado's continuing behaviour is tolerated is beyond me though.

I think that in fairness at least the FIA are trying to send out a statement. Grosjean was always going to be punished and given the magnitude of the incident I think he can consider himself lucky that the FIA didn't ban him for longer. However, as I believe I and others will mention in the comments you move from the race thread, please log in to view this image
