  1. Ok, there has been a 3 month period in which i didn't do much exercise at all. In this time i didn't really gain much weight but i did get really unfit, and i decided to get off my arse and do something about it.

I don't really think i need to lose weight as i didn't put much on, or much fat, but it's just feeling fit that i like.

I've been jogging for the last 7 days and i'm starting to feel better mentally, as i feel much less lazy, and it's becoming progressively a little bit easier each time, but i just want to know do you think 25 mins a day is enough?

I try to push myself to go on for longer but i can't. I think once i get fitter i might be able to go on for perhaps 30 mins or 45, but at the moment, is 25 mins a day enough?

They say that 3 x 30 minute sessions of cardiovascular activity is all that's necessary. If you wan't to improve your fitness, then you should look at interval training (e.g. jog for 2 minutes then sprint for 30 seconds, and repeat).

Are you getting yourself fit in preparation for raping another gigantic work colleague?

It's good, as I work in a Leisure Centre you see people going in for a 15 minute jog on the treadmill and that's it. Going to the gym and working on muscles helps, but make sure you mix this with cardio. Since you have been off for a while, 25 mins is a good starter as you don't want to push yourself too hard at the start. You should set yourself a target, run to something familiar at the start of the week, and then keep going further every day. It helps having the right mentality to do it. Just keep pushing on.

Yeah I'd try not to push yourself too far if you're just starting again. Like Son of a pitch said above, 3 x 30 mins is the recommended starting level I think.

And yeah, Ive just started too <ok> :)

  7. I know mate. I actually sometimes can't be arsed, but i drag myself out and about half way through, even though it's very hard and tiring, i start to feel good and that i can go on. The biggest reward is getting home a lush shower and a cold drink and feeling you've done something instead of sitting around on your arse lol

I know how you feel. Its having the energy to get up and do it, its hard, even though you know there is a fine reward at the end.

I play football still, but having shin splints they are starting to get really bad and I need to stop. When I go to the gym, I find myself just doing weights and only a little bit of cardio because of the shins which isn't the best.

  9. Good stuff. I've done a bit of weight lifting, i even bulked up but i just couldn't keep it up. After a day of dealing with ****s on the phone and microsoft excell saying it's not responding, it's just too much. So i slimmed back down again and stuck to jogging.

But then i just stopped exercising for like 3 months and it was scarying how unfit i got. I used to be able to run up the stairs of SJP easily, but i did it at the Wolves game and i ran out of breath half way up and had to sit down. That's when i knew i had to do something about it and get my arse back into shape :D

I'm pretty into fitness now lost about 5 stone over the past year and a bit, 30 minutes is generally seen as a good range, maybe 45 could be better but it shouldn't be more than this as it can deteriorate your fitness from over-training. Cardio 5 times a week is seen as excellent and weight training 3-4 times a week will benefit you more than people think as it increases your metabolism. Nutrition is probably the key for anyone wanting to lose weight (not saying you need to Tash just for anyone interested) 5-6 small meals a day every 2-3 hours with the right balance of protein carbs and fats makes your metabolism extremely fast you burn calories like mad. As for motivation it is hard, I listen to music to keep it less boring and try and get up early and get it out the way as you won't end up blowing it off later in the day if your mates invite you to the pub. Try to incoporate High intensity interval training into your workout, 3x a week jog for 2 minutes then sprint all out for 30 - 60 secs and 2x go for a normal jog/run, this should get you fit as a fiddle

30 minutes three times a week will do the trick. Make sure you walk/run for at least 20 minutes to use up the glycogen stores in your muscles. Your body will use this up as its primary source of energy before it starts burning fat.

And yeah, put some lean muscle on. Get to the gym, do some HEAVY compound exercises (squats, deadlifts, bench press and so on) and take in a lot of protein. Try GOMAD (Gallon Of Milk A Day). Usually does the trick for skinny younger people.

Personally I would cut back from running everyday...Aim for 5/6 days a week exercise. Do one day running, one day simple strength exercises (sit ups, press ups - there's some class little video work outs on youtube, search '7 minute abs' and I defy any of you not to struggle!) run, exercise, run exercise...You'll feel better for it AND you'll be able to push harder 'cause you know the next day, those muscle groups will be allowed to rest!

Also, I find that running on a time period doesn't work - run outside and run distances (again, you can use the internet to find and work out the distance of a route)...Start off with 3 miles, then simply add miles on whenever you feel ready, that way, rather than simply getting to 25/30 minutes and thinking 'I'm done' you will physically have to run back from the point you're at!

Dont actively excercise myself, play football 2 or 3 times a week for an hour or 2. Have been meaning to sign up for a gym and bulk up a bit. I bought a few light weights a while ago but did them every day and after a week my arms ached so I stopped, should have paced myself.

Don't think you have to exercise every day. At the minute three days a week for a short period should be fine, then as you start to feel good with that either exercise for longer or on more nights.
