The song prob gives Brenda a bit too much credit. Seems Liverpool are the same as ever - Joe Allen costing nearly the same as Garcia? Moutinho would have been only 7m more. Good God.

Great value on our transfers - I really don't understand why more Prem clubs didn't sift through the Spanish leagues...

It's been mentioned by someone on here before that unless they've got a 10 million + price tag, the big clubs aren't interested.
If Michu was up for sale for 20 million, Man city would have snapped him up, lucky for us we've got a manager who knows the Spanish market and knows the gems

Now that's an interesting debate. It's like seeing Andrex bog roll next to Tesco Value bog roll. Many people will buy the more expensive one not realising that the cheaper one will still do the job.

Unless it breaks and your fingers poke through. Hate it when that happens.

What on earth am I on about. <doh>

KJ is right - They look at the price tag and think to themselves "This guy can't be good enough for us".

There is an element of Management (I mean CEOs etc rather than a football manager) paying for prestige. You see it every day in work - the people holding the purse strings are divorced from whatever it is that they're managing but know that they have to make an impact to justify their position.

Now you or I would, if given a job to be in charge of a hospital, would say either a) I will work my socks off to know the subject better than anyone else, or b) learn the smaller field of "People who know medicine" and delegate accordingly. Unfortunately, they take the position of "I don't know the subject but I need to contribute because I am in this position". They make decisions based on their opinion which is not based on enough knowledge. I could say "Nurses should be paid more" but I have no idea about the funding issues inherent in the NHS - whilst I may think that it would be a bold move to make, it could just as likely be a disaster for the hospital.

If asked to justify what they have done, it is much easier to say "I signed Van Persie" than to reel off a list off lesser known players that have contributed to stabilising or building a team. They can't justify that because they don't know the subject well enough and, even if they could, it doesn't lend their egos enough prestige.

I brought this point up a few weeks back as you said, i think it holds water too ,i posted the following on the Michu thread <ok>

" This may sound daft, but the price probably put alot of clubs off !! £2m quid was probably too cheap for most clubs so they thought his price was far to low to even be considered as a top player, bearing in mind that big clubs are paying that kind of money for untried school kids.. if real valecano (sp) touted him for £20m then he would probably strutuing his stuff for Liverpool or Man utd as we speak!

His parent club was desperate for money so they thought selling him for a couple of million for quick money would be easy, the snobery of the premier league meant that at his advertised price he was not worthy of standing along side the likes of £35 m andy carrol and the mediocre tripe that changes hands for multi millions.

Its very early days though and its too early to judge him, but the signs are looking very good and he could be a star for our team" Norway-jack.

Can we not give to much focus to this Premiership snobbery, as it leaves the under valued talent, to teams like us. No more advertising the facts please Norway!....
