Okay. Who are the big winners who have bought well this summer and who are the big losers who have missed out. King of the Contenders Man City have brought in 3 or 4 good players and have strengthened their chances of retaining the title and have done well Man Utd in getting RVP have added real firepower and will again be challengers Chelsea have bought really well and look to have unearthed a gem in Hazard Spurs have bought well and not spent much (net spending) QPR have bought friggin loads to give them a chance of surviving - 25 players in 12 months now which is staggering and 12 this summer alone. West Ham have bought lots too and some good ones that will give them a chance to stay up Sunderland have added 5 players for under £25m and have brought some real skill and talent. The signing of Sess was crucial too. King of the Bunglers? Liverpool have let everyone go and brought in............ well no-one really and they are in big trouble imo. If Suarez gets injured or suspended they will have nothing to replace him with and they might be the real strugglers of the EPL this season Arsenal have recruited 3 good players but crucially they have lost Song and RVP - their top scorer and their best assist player. Could be a struggle to maintain their place at the top table After a fantastic season just gone, Newcastle have brought in no-one of note and their main signing Anita will need time to acclimatise and the old adage that if you stand still in business, you actually fall behind. That said, they have hung on to all their key players and if they stay fit, they will do more than okay. These are just a few examples. Please fell free to add your own thoughts.
QPR are doomed imho, with all the signings they've made they'll be exactly like man city, in that they have players who aren't making the bench on ridiculous wages, with no disrespect to qpr they're quite a small club and won't be able to keep going on as they are, won't be able to ditch the high-earners and will end up in massive debts they can't pay
Similar to what you've said mate, for me the big winners are Spurs, QPR, West Ham, Man U, Chelsea and Sunderland. Losers are Newcastle and Liverpool. Teams that could turn out either way Arsenal, Fulham and Swansea. Man City are omitted as they'e disappointed me, I was hoping they would bring more awesome players to the prem (I've been saying Falcao for months) but Maicon is an immense signing I suppose.
For those of you that were aware we linked with a "gem frm abroad" earlier today. The gem was a french striker who plays for Lyon I think and is called Bafetimbi Gomis!? Anyone heard of him?
Agree with most of your thoughts. Was at Stamford Bridge for last weeks game and have to say thought Anita looked a really good player already. I don't think we look much stronger than we did last season. Johnson is exciting but underwhelmed by Fletcher.
Don't think we were in for anyone, I suspect we were done when AJ came, but needed replacement for Ricco
Disagree mate, they're being bankrolled by a wealthy man, he'd be facing court if he just jumped ship and left them with debt. Yeah great player, 15 goal a season striker I'd have thought.
Wealthy, yes. However you have to assume they want to compete in Europe and with their tiny ground they will not make back the money they spend, meaning they can't comply with UEFA's finical rules. They can't continue to spend money without making some back, IMO their owner will eventually run out of money (supposedly not that rich) or refuse to continue to invest (I don't think they'll have much success and he'll obviously become frustrated) and they'll have to sell off their best players Probably wrong though anyway
They're spending their money now, while they aren't expected to be in Europe, so that when the time comes that they are in a battle for Europe, they don't have to spend multi millions and can comply with fair play rules.
I guess the next question is who will be brought in during the January window? I reckon most clubs will have targets they just missed out on or couldnt agree terms for.
