Im really in shock, if the Carroll deal hadn't been done I don't think it would have raised too much of an eyebrow but it now looks like we have slimmed down our already limited striking options for the sake of a couple of mill. I'm not a huge fan of Dempey but it would appear like our manager was, FSG cannot back the man THEY chose by £7mill?
Dempsey at Spurs training ground. Ah well. When he bangs in the goals for them we'll once again be a laughing stock because we wouldn't go up from £5m to £7m.
It's worst than a joke, it's a sorry indication of how far our once mighty club has fallen. I just find it incredible that we couldn't sort out a deal for Dempsey considering how long it's been rumbling on. Just watching LFC TV and they all look really depressed. Know the feeling. I bet now that we finish no higher than 8th,score no more goals than last year and score no more than 3 goals in any premier league match. But please prove me wrong.
By the way I am really pissed off!!!! Should have kept Carroll . What really grates even more is that Dempsey is going to the spuds..ffs
I think the aim is probably long term sustained success and, as such, spending over the odds on 'good but not great' players is only going to hold you back. You may end up 7th or so this season but so long as systems are being put in place to identify good purchases, nurture youth players and adapt to a progressive style of play (as Rodgers wants) then a bit of patience could pay off. Seems like its going to be a rough season for you but Anfield is always a tough place to go and you'll do alright I'm sure. Your first team looks stronger than it did last season, but your squad is surely much weaker. One or two players need to stay fit all season or the problems really set in.
Missed out on Dempsey because we wouldn't pay £2M more than we offered... Over 20 goals last season. £6M. Missed out on that.
Who left that blotchy faced twat in charge of negotiating? Complete 'YES MAN' that's what Ian Ayre is.
Like mentioned above by others, if we'd kept Carroll and all other business as it is, I'd have been happy. By loaning out Carroll WITHOUT a replacement, we've just shot ourselves in the foot. Chelsea woudn't get rid of Sturridge before getting a replacement, but ended up keeping him. Arsenal wouldn't lose Walcott without replacing him, they ended up keeping him. We lost a striker when we were thin on options already and had no one lined up. Seriously poor management and I'd love to know which moron was in charge of that decision. Missing out on Dempsey for a few million is a stupid idea. And overall this window, the club are making a profit (taking into account wages and transfer fees) meaning FSG once again spend nothing. Our supposed spending spree last time around was about a 30mill net loss but we saved alot on wages so that was minimal spending from the owners pockets. What happened to the 'ambition' these owners had? What happened to the famous line from Werner about us having 'money to compete'? Really no clue what to expect anymore...45mins to go in this window - but all the staff have gone home apparantly =/
I'm really angry, not because we missed out on Dempsey but that our manager (who they chose) was not backed by a measly £6mill.
