Not sure why everyone wants us to end up selling the players we buy. Going after players with 'resale value' just means Ashley will **** us over. Buy a player for £5m, improve him, sell him for £20m, replace him with another £5m'er <doh>

I'm going to ask him(via text) if he knows any other info(names, hints, etc.). Don't get too excited just yet though. These deals do take some time you know. I'm hoping your list is right although I'll doubt we'll actually sign all of them. Here's hoping my mate replays quickly <ok>
He's on holiday.. so I can't meet him personally :(

It was a list of hope more than expectation <laugh>

Keep us informed! Must know something if he got the Routledge and Willo signings right.

  5. I think he's worth the 18 mil for a few years, but i wouldn't pay him over the wage cap.

Imagine if we got Pav!!! in Jan.. he would've been great unfortunately time wasn't on our side.. DAMN YOU LIVERPOOL/CHELSEA!!!

Yeah. He also said back in 08' Dec that Nolan was having initial talks with the club and look how it turned out!

Right, let's cut the bull****. Berbatov would be well worth £15-£18mil, has been very consistent at top level for years now and at that price would be a snip compared to Torres or Carroll. It's wrong to assume every young/cheap player that we pluck from obscurity is going to be anywhere near as good as Tiote or Ben Arfa. We need quality now. We've got a great core in our first eleven but we need a replacement for Carroll, not another Carroll from two/three years ago or someone who could be good in a few years.

Also, it would be great PR for Ashley, season ticket and shirt sales would increase substantially and he's the kind of player who's attitude wouldn't disrupt the dressing room.

I for one am hoping this comes off. He's exactly what we need right now!

EDIT: Another thing, who gives a **** about resale value if he has five blinding seasons for us? Jeez man, look at the bigger picture!

God help us. £18m for a 30 year old. And he hasn't exactly aged gracefully (probably due to a forty a day smoking habit), he looks and moves like he's ****ing ancient. This would be a terrible waste of the Carroll money, he'd be spent in two years ago. <ok>

I agree 18mil is too much, but he'd also be valuable for attracting other players and getting certain existing players to sign contracts. Plus i'm sure Fat Ash can recoup some funds on the Berba - 9 tops that would be sold.

shame it wont happen though, since he's one of my favourite players.

I'd like to see us slap in a couple bids for Cavani and Alexis Sanchez, as for Berbatov... inconsistent, old, massive wages and transfer fee. Why?

I think he is cute and his poster would be straight away on he wall next to my bed ;-) Seriously torn into about him see the pro's & cons in having him & keeping well away. But the thought of him on my wall in a Toon shirt seals it for me. Sign him up!!!

He's only about 25, signing him on a free. Was a good prospect at West Ham, would add depth.

I still can't tell if you're joking or not? Just because he's 25 it doesnt mean he's not dead wood, Perch is also 25 and there both as bad as each other. Does Villa not renewing his contract give you a hint to how bad he is? His agent will do well to find a PL club for him and hopefully it won't be us!

I'd rather see Reo-Coker start than Alan Smith. I'm not saying I want us to go out and sign Reo, I was just listing him as Rambo said his mate, who has some inside knowledge, says we are talking to 3 free agents. Knowing his connections to Pardew from the West Ham days it wouldn't surprise me if one was him.

Reo-Coker can be an ok CM for a prem side, I'd rather him at the club than Smith, considering Smiths wages etc, I would have thought most would feel the same. Maybe I've missed out on some absolutely dire Reo-Coker performances that everyone else witnessed?!

I'd have him on a free, but he'd be like 6th choice. He'll be looking to go to a club where he gets regular playing time, perhaps one of the newly promoted clubs, or maybe a premier league straggler with a weak midfield, maybe Sunderland...
