Thanks guys - think you've helped me move from "the epitome of everything that's wrong with the modern game" to embracing change with cautious optimism....now what's that about Shay Given being spotted at HQ?....!!!!
Yeah unfortunetely that the modern Premiership......its now such a lucrative money pit, that the best players in the world want to come play there....but only if you pay top dollar! If you dont adapt you'll loose out......people can say that, its all what they hate about football and thats a very valid viewpoint, BUT its just the way it is and it looks like we are trying to adapt to it. Wait till next season when the Premiership money goes through the roof!
Good points well made Sexton. My only thought is, didn't the structure of the club get blown out the water when Mittal and Fernandez came on board. I know that this leaves us vulnerable if the owners ever lose interest and move their money elsewhere, but without the investment in the club I dread to think where we could have ended up. Sure it is a massive gamble, and a huge risk for QPR to bring in players who are high earners on long contracts, but I am reassured by the fact that it is also a huge risk to the owners. These are men who have become VERY wealthy by making investments, being patient, and waiting for their investments to pay dividends. If, as they seem to suggest, QPR is a long term project for them, they should be willing to invest, leave the money in until QPR are really successful, and then make their money back when we are a 'worldwide brand.' However, as you say...business and finances aside...always a Ranger and boy is it not boring!
The new Sky TV deal starts next season. Even the bottom club in the premier league will get £60 million - the same City got last year for winning. This is not the year to go down! Look at the way many clubs are spending. Football is a business.
That's a very good point, relegation would prove disastrous as the league will (unfortunately) become ever more a closed shop with an increasingly massive financial gap to the Championship. We must stay up and we must have a new stadium in the next three years, TF seems to think his investment will be worth it long term and it could well prove so.
Well, such is the game now: you can't win the league unless you're one of those teams. So, if you only want QPR to be a mid to top half team and not COMPLETELY sell out, then ok.
I Love what is going on now! It could just be that TF will take us back to somewhere near where we were in the mid Seventies -he's certainly heading that way.
Interesting discussion folks...have been following the QPR financial situation amongst other clubs recently. Southampton have spent a lot of money too of course, and that number is probably going to go up by a lot by 11pm. But the strategies of the two clubs could not be more different really. Anyway it is good to see that you are at least considering the financial implications, I think cautious optimism is the way forward. Three clubs are going to go down this season, I have no idea who, but they are all gonna get a big shock, fairly confident it isn't gonna be either of us though. Anyway enjoy the most exciting day of the season
Obviously we don't want to do a Chelsea or Citeh, but so far we are bringing in some outstanding players for next to nothing! I heard that we've paid less than 4 million for Granero, Cesar a free transfer, Park for less than 4 million and Hoilett probably for a similar amount. Add it all together along with all the other free transfers and it's less than West Ham spent on Flethcher, bad business by us? I don't think so. Now obviously wages will be very high, but as is mentioned we'll be getting £60 million a year from the new sky deal which will easily cover the yearly wage bill. But something that the club will have had to take in to consideration is that if we didn't splash the cash, to some extent, before the new fair play rules come in to effect, we probably would struggle to sign a one legged midget on the money we bring in from Loftus Road. Until we move stadiums, we would really struggle to compete once the new rules are implemented, so we had to replace the dross and deadwood in the squad now, or forever be stuck and inevitably relegated. So I can understand the OP's concern, but I just don't see that we are going about things in a haphazard manner. We aren't spending £30 million on one player as Chelsea and Citeh do, nor are we paying 200k a week wages. I think some fans read the ill informed press and opposing fans reactions, and the nerves creep in. We aren't the next Portsmouth as the first thing our new owners did was to ensure a self sufficient future by buying a new base for training and football academy. But the press and other teams fans ignore the nitty gritty and focus on the players we've got coming in, but neglect to look at the facts and figures of the deals we're doing. So ignore the media BS, forget the WUMing fans of other teams, enjoy the ride and look forward to our new future!
Good to see you are beginning to understand the plan ... QPR has to have the squad in place now and its being well quoted that TF is adopting a variation on the Man City model
I completley understand those who are cautious but for me I can only think of the current regime and events in a positive light. If we had owners different to TF and AB then I would agree, but they have both earnt our trust with each and every one of their promises having come to fruitition. The latter has earnt our trust over a number of years, including the time under Flavio and Bernie which we all know was a turbulent one. They are shrewd business men, and in TF he has proven that he can take a small business like AirAsia and transform it into a sucessful one. That fact alone should breed confidence. But added to that is the fact that he is accessible to fans and doesnt hide away behind the media team. I have every confidence that QPR are in good hands, and are on the right track. Things wont gel immediatley, so I plead with everyone to be patient and as the saying goes "the best things come to those who wait". That couldnt be more true here, and my god we as QPR fans have waited a long time. Just a little longer to wait!
Very happy with all the signings excluding Green and I have every confidence in Tony F. Zero trust in Hughes or Joorabchian however and will be glad to see the back of them and their commissions and percentages.
As I say, I understand your position, but I think what everyone is saying is just give them time (I am sure you will) and the chance to prove that things can be a success. After all, that is all we can do as fans.
What have you got against Hughes and his gang? Did you mention before its something to do with dodgy dealings of his is the past? To say you'd prefer to have Barton at the Club than Hughes indicates to me that you know more than you're letting on mate.
