I am going to have an extremely strong left leg by the time the plaster comes off the right one. Although I am confined to downstairs I have steps to hop up and down on my crutches. Quite how to keep some muscle tone in my right leg I haven't worked out as I cannot stand on it at all and have to keep it propped up as much as possible.

Just seen the French athletes in wheelchairs at the paralympics with blue, white and red wheels. I am inspired to see if I can get some yellow, red and black ones.;)

Glad to see you around Minx, nice to know that you think my ramblings are worth a look. ;)

Although plastered and vino do go together, on this occasion not a drop had passed my lips. I was playing tennis and have snapped the Achilles tendon while on holiday.

About time to act your age keeps coming back at me. <grr>

Good luck, its the contrary advice that gets me, need to rest the joints but need to work to get the weight off. I had cortisone injections in my feet a few years ago, worked brilliantly and very quickly. Have had steroids recently for inflammatory problems in joints (tablets) these again worked very well but only a temporary fix, I'm loathe to get prescribed them as you never know when you might want to step into some old fogey sport and would hate to be branded a drugs cheat, gotta be careful. My thoughts are and I'm no doctor that promoting blood flow to areas of infection / inflammation speeds the cure and gives pain relief hence the use of heat and mild exercise, also the use of cardio after weights to get nutrients to damaged muscles as well as clear lactate. In my case rest = additional pain, its beating the natural drive when exercising to do it in an extreme fashion (Belief proven by results in no pain no gain) thats difficult, can you beat the feelgood factor of completely wasting yourself with an exercise program so you can barely lift your arm? I think not.

My knees are to shot to take up any sport, that is what bugs me as I cannot run even lightly as the pain is well let's just say not very nice;)
I have been told today that I am going to get an appointment for the injections, we shall see what I can do afterwards<yikes> not expecting miracles only enough to let me do some light weights to enable me to lose more weight quicker!!!! I continue to massage the elbow joint and I am forever flexing it, but to no avail.

If I do rest too much it does hurt to start doing phys again, even when I cannot get on my exercise bike I at least try and do some walking to keep the legs working! My job is so sedentary though:(

Well done..... it's really simple calories input-calories consumed = -ve = weight loss.... but how to get the will power to reduce calories in and increase calories used? Increase muscle mass = increase sedentary energy consumption so well worth ensuring you've got a good amount of fat burning muscle if you're restricted on the cardio..

Thanks Mr Granite;) I am only doing static bike, it does my knees no good but the results are worth the short term pain! I am now going to introduce Ab exercises to strengthen my core and hopefully tone up what is there! A long way to go but over the moon at what I have achieved so far<party>

I haven't lost any weight since my first post on this thread but I have decided that for my 40th in January to try and get back to the weight I was when I split from my ex-wife (shortly after my 32nd birthday) so I have a stone and a half to lose by then.

Good luck with that Barry, I have found using my fitness pal a real benefit as it acts as a food diary and counts your calories for you:cool: it saves time IMO on trying to work everything out! And it gives you cals back for exercising, even just walking round the shops, it works it out for you!

h beware of going too low on calorie intake, the body reduces metabolic rate to compensate and stores instead of feeding the muscles, its actually not so simples!!! Food timing is very important ensure you kick the day off with a food intake to kick start metabolism. Carbs after exercise and not too late in the day. Good luck. Also if spending time on bike go for Interval training its far more effective.

Got my next cardio-vascular session through exercise referral is this evening - now various things are out of the way/healed I can make a concerted effort to go twice a week as I should do. At home, I can't have any fitness equipment as the floorboards are wobbly and as I'm in a top floor flat, it irritates the ladies in the flat below so I've decided to do what I call "ad break exercise" where, if any programmes I'm watching have ad breaks (including recorded ones) during each break I do some sit-ups, press-ups or squat thrusts.

Had an appointment at ENT this afternoon about a problem with the part of my nose that separates the nostrils. It's going to need corrective surgery. So the consultant could look in my nose, I had a camera instered into it which makes your eyes water and it's bizarre seeing the inside of your nose on a screen!
