I would prefer Drogba if I was living in dreamland, but yes, Berba and Ben Arfa would be a nightmare to play against.

I would soil my duds with excitement if this happened. I think he's a brilliant player. (i agree that he could easily play at the top level until 35)

Harsh to judge him negatively for scoring 4 goals a game <laugh>. But I know what you mean.

He has probably proven himself to be someone you can rely on to get winning goals and important goals though, when he was at Spurs he produced the goods, and he scored plenty for Bulgaria so has proven he doesn't need to be at a team winning every game before he will score. His game isnt all about goals either, I know thats important for a striker, but he would compliment the likes of Ben Arfa & Nolan brilliantly.

I probably wouldn't want him to come for £18m, but I can see him leaving for less. I expect he would want the #9 shirt if he came here as his idol was Shearer.

If he joined I could see Barton & Jose signing extended contracts straight away, so could prove worth it in that respect alone.

I could see him leaving for about £15 mil, Man Utd will probably want £18 mil but with the situation that it is (Him not enjoying his time there) I could see him forcing the matter and use getting him a bit cheaper. It's a great deal, for a great striker.

I'l have him for 10m - 15m. Past that might be a bit too much IMO. How about the wage issue though? surely he must be on 80k+++.

That's the (other) issue. Would you break the structure for him? Would he accept 50k p/w?

You all seem to be thinking there is a chance of Berbatov signing for Newcastle on the back of some Twitter rumour. Even if it was true I think the £18m mentioned writes off any chance of this happening. If Pardew is given any money to spend I can't see more than £6-7m being spent on one player.

I wouldn't want to break our wage structure for him. I wouldn't want us breaking it for anyone otherwise there is no point in having it. Barton would understandably question why he has to take a cut to have a new contract yet Berbatov gets what he wants. If Berbatov really wants to emulate Shearer wearing the toon #9, I'm sure he could manage to live with being paid a mere £50,000 a week.

18mil is steep for him like, but it will never happen anyways.

Hypothetically, if it happened we'd get the whole "big money Newcastle, trophy signing" brigade out in force (despite being the lowest spending team in the prem over the last 5 years or something) and i wouldnt give a single **** because we'd have Berba

I wonder if it's the pressure of playing in the spotlight at Old Trafford has affected his game, he seemed to be brilliant at Spurs where they didn't get as much press coverage at the time. It seems the higher the level you're playing at, the more press coverage you get.

If he joined I'm sure he'd convince players to stay, plus he'd probably get other people interested in joining.

If you could get him for about £10m it would be a great deal, but I can't see them selling him for that, wasn't there talk of him getting a new contract just a couple of months ago?

With Ashley I can see you buying someone like Carlton Cole or Kevin Doyle to replace Carroll, and also selling Enrique and buying someone like Konchesky to replace him, because Pardew's familar with him. I suppose that's whats great about the transfer window though, everyone has their own levels of expectations and hopes and you can be as optmistic as you like!

Yeah good point, I doubt he'll accept it though(50,000 a week when he's comfortably able to go to a Champions League side & earn the similar figures he earns at United). <ok>

Meh. We can all dream though. :)

good player, but not for 18 million surely??? at his age? wages too big too.

also, is he not just a Shearer fan, not actually a Newcastle fan?

I can see where you're coming from, and i half expect dross like that to turn up, however it's more likely we'll buy young, cheap players from abroad.

Hopefully the pressure of costing £35m and playing for Liverpool will affect Carrolls game <cheers>!

There may have been talk of him signing a new contract recently, in all honesty I cant see him leaving Man Utd unless they sign a new striker, as at the moment they only have 3 quality* ones, and for a team who push for the league and champions league that isnt really enough depth.

I would be pissed off if we ended up with Cole to replace Carroll. I wouldn't mind Doyle as a squad player, not as a Carroll replacement though. I think with our transfer kitty we are all hoping for players of higher quality than those two and Konchesky, there has been a lot of talk about our chief scout, being closely followed by yours <grr>, visiting Holland, France and Germany etc.

I'm not going to pin my hopes on us signing Berbatov. Ashley will prove his true intentions during the transfer market, will be interesting to see if they are good or bad. At the moment I'm aiming to be positive rather than negative!

*Questionable, dependant on form. (Rooney, Hernandez & Berbatov)
