This. I think on his day he's a amazing player. Technically excellent, stylish and a certain goalscorer. Loads of experience and ''know-how'' as well. Issues would be age, inconsistency and wages. Nothing else if I'm honest. Can't see it happening though.

The fact he 'slept in a number 9 shirt' as a boy is the sole reason I can see it happening. He will look at this and think 'I'm 30, and I have a chance to end my career at the club I literally love.' It seem's obvious, unfortunately didn't Man Utd pay something like £30 million for him? Doubt they'll sell him cheap..

I'd take him like a shot, he may be 30 but he's done that little running in his career I reckon he could play for us until he's 65.

We could then sell him to the Mackems.

Wikiquote "Berbatov's mother spoke of her son's teenage dream of playing for Newcastle United". DB seen at SJP this morning.

That's all I can find on twitter.

A lot of talk of inconsistency but the fact is he's got a career 222 goals in 490 apps.

Not sure where its come from either, he had a poor first season at Man Utd, but every other season in the Prem he's been quality.

Basically he's managed around a goal every 2 games at all his clubs, except Man U, where its nearer a goal every 3 games. But then at Man U he's much more rotated and a lot of those apps will have been as a sub.

We need a goalscorer fast. I feel we're not in the position to be over picky about what players we want. We're not aiming for the title anymore lads, we're a newly promoted team and the fact is, a proven premier league striker with a great goal record and about 5-6 more years to give to a club is willing to join because of his passion for the club. If I was Pardew I'd leap at it. And we'd still have money to spend on someone else. <ok> Just my opinion.

Plus this year he has scored more goals than any other season in the prem, he's the sort of player who will be able to maintain his high level of performances for at least another two seasons. The more I think about it, the more I'd love him to join.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's the kind of signing MA would sanction but if it did happen, I certainly wouldn't be upset. <ok>

Can't see it happening, would be good, think we need to think more long term though.

Aireys looks like our current long term plan, i say get a couple of players such as Berbatov now because the majority of our squad has plenty of years left

Would be awesome if he signed. Man United won't ask for anywhere near what they bought for him as he is 30.

At the same time though, it wouldn't be the wisest spend. It's unlikely that we could re-sell him after a few years, so we would get very little back from our 18 mill. At least with a young striker, we can spend a considerable amount and potentially sell him after a long while for the same price or even more. And if we didn't do that, we'd have got our moneys worth with a full career here.

The fact is, 8 of his goals have just came in two games this season.

On his day he's obviously very good, but he tends to score a lot in some matches, then go massive streaks without goals.

I don't recall him scoring much match winning goals for Man Utd, most of his contributions are when they're already ahead by 2 or 3 goals.

For £18m you could probably sign 3 good players who will suit the team more, instead of one who will be on huge wages and won't work that hard for the team.

Who realistically do you think we will actually sign?

Atm, we seem to rely on Nolan to both score and drop back and help the defence. Ameobi is to lazy to do a task like that, Best seems to just be a goalscorer, Lovenkrands no, and Ranger needs to go, Berbatov as seen from Rambo's video can do that, he is brilliant on the ball, creates chances, can take the ball from people, distributes it well, just lacks pace.

He is what we need, and can show Best a thing or two about scoring goals. I say if the oppertunity rises, then we should take him.
