Watch the games, over and over and if you think there's a lad that shows real promise, book an Easyjet flight and go watch him for real. What's so bloody difficult about that ?
Well when you don't have a worldwide scouting network, (and evidently we don't according to you), although simplistic it might just work. And by the way Superman I must say that I find many of your posts arrogant to say the least and sometimes you really do come across as nothing but a bloody know all !
yes but all 3 clubs you mention have had the PL payday for many more years than us, we must take our time and be patient cant go QPRing every name available on our resources, I believe we can survive with what we have even if that is 17th I will be happy
I take your point, perhaps I interpreted your post wrong ? It just seemed as though you were infering that we would always be a yo-yo club which I cannot agree with. Until Robert Chase bolloxed us up in the mid nineties we had only spent three seasons outside of the top flight in 25 years ! The size of our club dictates that we should aim to be in the top 12 in the long term IMO
Overall I don't think are signing have been too bad this summer. If we can't afford to bring in a better striker than we shouldn't bother. I am still confident, takes a while for players to get used to manager. Happened at Birmingham last season, they didn't start great under Hughton.
sorry I was not clear kickitoff no I dont want to be a yoyo but cant want ever to bet the farm again I was in the Barclay the night Chase got all those coppers and horses in carrow road never forgiven him but always remember singing all we want is another chairman to Ace of Bass !
well when it comes to scouting then i know a fair bit! i worked for norwich city for a few years doing just that role and have and still do (part time) work as a scout
I think going down the "DVD" "YouTube" route is dangerous, we do have limited scouting in Europe or elsewhere and if we aren't careful we'd end up with goran maric mkII
What does "better striker" mean? Lambert considered Chris Martin one of the most naturally gifted goal scorers he'd seen, but that didn't mean much once we were out of League 1. If it means someone who is going to guarantee us e.g. 10 goals a season in the PL, who do people have in mind and at what price? My guess is that CH feels there isn't enough of a competitive edge between our current strikers. Even if CMS isn't technically better than any of the current three, he has spirit in the GH mould and will fight for a starting place. IMO that could be as important as anything else.
i think CMS is better than martin and possibly better than morison too, so he would probably improve the squad. would he go straight into the first team? not so sure, but if the price is relatively low then it would be good to have a further option - he is different to two of our strikers but quite similar to holt, just pocket-sized
I think in a single striker mode Mucky Duck would struggle but paired with Holty I think they would be a worrying combination for most PL defences - both strong, both two footed, both good with their head, both good at running the channels, both hard working and adaptable and you do get a bit of pace with CMS too. I like the guy and having seen him at Posh a few times before his move to Brighton reckon he's just the right kind of player to "give the lads a hand". Hope we get him ....
I guess i mean don't buy a forward just for the sake of it. Someone who is better or just as good as what we have (if they offer different attributes) also supers. genuinely always wondered. How do you actually become a scout? Like there isn't qualifications for it is there? If you've not played professionally how do you get into it? Just always wondered haha
you make some good points about the lad. i'm 50/50 on this. in some ways i think he'd be a good signing and other ways i think we'd be better off looking elsewhere! i do like him and although he's blatantly not going to be a top premier league striker, i do think he may offer us a good option. i'm torn.
i think he could play the lone striker role better than Holt in my opinion. Always seen CMS as Grant Holt without the height but more pace.
Well, CH has said several times very explicitly that he is not in the business of just bringing people in for the sake of it. So if he does bring CMS in, CH must believe he will enhance the squad. Quite in what way we would have to wait to see. On a related point, if the preferred formation IS to play with one up front, most on here think that Morison is a better option than Holt. So it's a bit of a mystery as to why Morison hasn't featured more in that role in pre-season. But as you said above, and I agree, CH is still feeling his way.
With the CMS thing, I think it may be like our previous signings... We needed a left back, all of a sudden a number of links came in for left backs (that celtic bloke) along with Garrido. BANG, we get Garrido We needed a Defensive Midfielder, all of a sudden links fly in and we get Tettey I think this may be how we are doing business, it's efficient. We identify some targets and swoop in very quickly The links for Garrido and Tettey were not a lot more than a day from inception to signing. I think CMS is just one of a few people we are looking at getting before the window closes. Hughton is a sly old Goose.
