If Im honest I think you will above Le Arse this season , on paper ur ins and outs look good its just whether AVB can merge them into a team.I think he probably will. Can see us and u avin a v close run for 4th this year
You're improving, Spurs are going backwards. if there is a fight for 4th, it's between us and you. Spurs aren't a threat, unless they make some excellent signings in the remainder of the window. And Rodgers is probably better suited to this league that Boas.
I think we are both in the same boat, vying for a similar finish. We both have acquired young managers who both bring with them a modern understanding of how the game should be played. Both can do well and for both it depends on how much the owners back their new managers.
What, alienate the senior players, and use tactics not suited to your personnel? If thats modern football, i'll happily stay in the past with Wenger.
If your talkin about just the manager, I feel more confident BR will be a success more than AVB, but both Arsenal and Spurs have an head start on us.The problem with Wenger is he ALWAYS wants to promote from within, I understood that a few yrs ago with the stadium, but isnt it paid for now, Arsenals owners are gonna make a bomb while Wengers there, as they dont seem to wanna invest on the team
Spurs on paper look good, but so did Chelsea last season. AVB just seems to make some radical changes without really paying attention to the effect on the team. This might be a crap comparison but its like he's playing FIFA 12 Career mode on the PS3 and deciding who should go in and out, without really thinking about how the system will actually pan out on the pitch. I admit all the signings are positive and definitely shows an intent, but again, I don't doubt the players or their abilities, I doubt the manager and his ability to apply his tactics onto the pitch in a system that works. If those signings were made under Harry Redknapp, I reckon you would have been more of a threat.
Don't let bias cloud your judgement...you don't really know what will happen just like you don't know how Harry would have done had he remained...this thread seems like a councillong session for low esteemed Pool fans
Woah woah, that was my own opinion with no bias involved and nothing taken personally. I believe the players' signed cannot be questioned in terms of their quality, all are of a very good standard, but I doubt the manager and with good reason, look at Chelsea. He struggled to keep that team near the top four and look at what RDM achieved just a few months later. That's why I mentioned Harry Redknapp. My OPINION states that Harry Redknapp may have handled the current transition of new players into the squad better than AVB, again, backed up by the evidence shown by AVB's time spent at Chelsea. Don't get so defensive, I was just stating my opinion, I respect yours so I'll appreciate it if you respect mine.
Way too early to judge this! AVB is having to overhaul the squad just as Rodgers is. I think Modric was out of his control and as for some of his other decisions I think he seems to be getting most of them right. Dawson is ok but nothing special, he probably is also pushing for a move himself to get games. Huddlestone has never really lived up to the hype and was not a regular under Redknapp, Lennon is not good enough for a title winning team which is what Spurs are aspiring to be. Redknapp always seems to have ageing squads and so it stands to reason that a new guy would have to make changes. Be interesting to judge when half the season is gone and after the transfer window is closed. At the moment judging them is like a see-saw; one week one is on top and the next the other is depending on the weekends results.
AVB did'nt struggle to keep Chelsea near the top 4,they were top 4 when he was sacked, and finished 6th under RDM
I can't really say as I watch LFC preseaosn etc not spurs.... spurs look like they are goingt o be formidable so it'll be interesting to see the actual quality they end up with. eg big talkers around the end of every transfer window but then uaually end up with not the best buys.. we'll see if loris etc join or what.... then it'll tkae a few games to know whats right or not. Spur have done some good business right now but they have to prove themselves just like ours... we'll see.
Finally the spursfan mentality comes out, little uppity terriers This thread would have went to sh!t on the spurs board after 1 post and it has been nothing like a cheap shot at spurs. AVB IS looking shakey and has done since Chelsea, maybe the added pressure of the UK media affects him. Looks a bit emotional, another Keegan
I didn't want AVB and I'm glad we didn't go for him, same goes for Martinez. I was exactly shouting from the roof tops for Rodgers either but nor was I apposed to it like with the other two. Personally, I think Tottenham and ourselves are at a very similar level but they had the better starting base (based on league positions last season). I still don't understand why they changed their manager though.
Dont know if it is fair to say we have made the right choice? Way way to early, i have so far been on a roller caster of emotions through this pre season, due BR. We appear to be jekyll and hyde at the minute, jekyll at home and hyde away from home. I hope we have got the better but i would be very pleased if us, spuds and everton with city as champs for top four, just to see the major shake up. Def think everton in the mix this year, they have looked good in all their games this season. But it marathon not a sprint right as long as we are involved in it till the death i will be happy this season
Bit harsh, despite looking dead certs for third they still got fourth and only missed out on CL because of Chelsea somehow winning the thing!
Wenger wants to promote from within? He's promoted 2 players from within in 12 years. Ashley Cole and Jack Wilshire. One plays for Chelsea and the other is a sicknote. Fabregas was bought, and us Liverpool fans do not include Raheem Sterling, who we signed from QPR when he was 15, so Arsenal cannot include Fabregas.
I think Levy(as well as most people) expected Harry to get the England job. I think once you start planning for new beginnings its difficult to stop that really. At some point in the near future they would have had to replace Harry, Levy probably thought with the overhaul the squad was likely to go through a new manager who can potentially be there long term made more sense?
