I don't know much about him other than he did a load of crazy **** while very ****ed up. I also heard he requested his ashes be shot out of a cannon... that's pretty cool.

Noope I meant. I got leatherd and and off my head on anything else just to fit in from 16 right through to 29. Just to be able to speak to people about anything other than my 'specialist' subjects.

Now I either bore them to death, get bored myself or don't worry about trying to be 'one of the gang'. If the Man U and Chelsea 'boarish lads' don't want to hear about the history of the moors or something else I've been reading about then I let them fall to sleep and continue. I chuckle now at people getting bored with me. lol

Anyways loads of orders to pack tomorrow....I'm off :)

Hopefully Gaston Ramirez has signed tomorrow and I can stop 'wading' ,lol

I was quite lucky in a way. Basically after A levels I didn't particularly want to go to uni, had had enough of education wanted to start earning money, get into the real world etc. I had good enough grades to go to uni so decided that I would take a year out and see what potential "good job" I could get with my A levels. If I liked the job I would stay at it as my long term future if I didn't I would go to uni. Managed to get a 6 month job in the head office of a bank doing a very boring job, but with the potential to become permanent and turn into a proper career through promotions etc. I hated it and saved up money whilst working for the 6 months and left and went travelling then went onto uni. I went back to the bank in both summers between 1st and 2nd and 2nd and 3rd year of uni, so by the time I graduated I had over a years experience in banking, which stood me in good stead when compared to other graduates with no/less experience than me.

But the placement thing is great if you can do it, I know a few people who despite not getting a good enough degree to get onto the graduate schemes at the companies they worked at, because the company knew them and knew their capabilities they got onto the graduate scheme easily. Obviously to do this you have to do well in the placement year.

Oh and interviews really are a piece of piss if you just do a bit of research about the company you are going for and act really interested and enthusiastic about what they are talking about.

He did some seriously crazy ****, and wrote novels about said crazy ****. But he was immensely intelligent and had a really funny way with words. The funeral was arranged by Johnny Depp, and yeah even that sounds hilarious.

You really did have it all figured out, that sounds like a great way of getting experience (and money, too!). I would never have had the option for that - I was sadly faced with the option of going to Uni which I didn't really want to do, or going the year after with the fees tripled. Ended up rushing into a course because I knew I was good at it, rather than I knew I enjoyed it... ah well, gotta live with it now! How happy were you with your course?

Yeah thanks for that, I'll definitely get on to asking uni what I can do. Experience and hopefully get a bit of networking done.

Didn't Depp play him in the movie? I might have to read into him (by which I mean watch the movie), I do love me some people who did crazy ****.

People who did crazy **** are the best kinds of people. Yeah Depp lived with him for ages while he was getting into character, and he did a really good job. If you can find it, there's an interview with Depp where he talks about what it was like meeting Hunter for the first time. It's a crazy story.

It may seem like I had it all planned out, but I really didn't, just kind of fell into place luckily. I only picked my course because it seemed quite general and I didn't have a ****ing clue what I wanted to do, picked business because it was my best grade at A level, not because I liked it. I even only picked the uni I went to because I heard the city was cool, didn't actually do any research into the course or the uni! The course was OK, problem with business is the theories you learn are largely bollocks, only real way to learn how it really works is to actually experience it for yourself. What course are you doing?

Yeah this has been fun, I'm off too I think, unless my sleeping pattern conspires against me. In a bit, folks.

Might as well reply before I go :p

Well it works out luckily for some people haha.. best to pretend you planned it out though, sounds more impressive! Which uni did you go to?

I'm doing Law... similar reasons for you. Was my best A Level, also figured it's a pretty employable degree even if I don't want to go into Law itself.

Gents (and any ladies, but not seen any in this thread yet), now this thread has started and possibly a sub forum/extra OT area to follow, do you think the elongated OT stuff will stay here?

I'm not trying to be provocative, and it's a serious/straight question because I wonder if people will get bored keeping it here and maybe let a little devilment slip back into other threads.

Early days, but what are your thoughts on the official OT thread?

    You missed Godders' colourful exit!

I imagine it'll still pop up in other threads because it's impossible to eradicate completely without going over the top but I imagine every time it starts going off topic you can easily go "let's move it to the OT thread" as happened last night
