Oh and Mr.Nice, I saw your post about Laura Robson and she is very British, the fact that she was born in Australia doesn't take away the fact that she is still British.

Haha pretty much, just with less cool names, and for some reason, less media coverage.

I agree with you there mate.Intelligence is a very subjective matter.

What I base intelligence on is very different from what other people think.

This. I believe that if you plan on going onto the next step of education then the previous one doesn't matter aslong as it gets you to the next step. I didn't really care about GCSE's or A levels aslong as they got me where I wanted to go, did care about my degree in my final year as I wasn't planning on doing a masters.

Well it was either that or English Literature, and I've never been one for reading.

For me at Uni though, it's not about essays because we barely have any. It's about remembering methods for calculating values, and it's a ****ing bitch as it means there's only one correct answer. So really, for me it's all about how much work you do outside of lecture time, and how much you practice.

I should add that by the time I got to the last 2 years I wasn't in the top class anymore and in those days it meant you did an easier exam. C was the maximum you could in the second level get so I guess the not bothering and then revising like mad was a bit like that :) Maybe if I had managed to stay in the top class then I could have got the A's lol.

Wanted the cool kids to like me more than wanting to get straight As though when I was 11-13.

The Bs were in Music and Art which I managed to stay in the top class cos they were cool subjects.

Glad to see you back :D

Yeah my A-levels haven't come up once since I've been in Uni. I'm unsure they will in the future. "They" say degrees aren't even that important these days, with the rising amount of people that have them. I'm paying £9,000 for a piece of paper, it better be worth something.

Our written word is tested on report writing, and that's a ****ing nightmare.

And if you knew the slightest thing about my course, you'd know that there is no grease involved at all. Now let me get back to reminiscing about the two days we had to spend disassembling and reassembling the engine from a BMW 5 series.

Based on my experiences degrees do matter a lot. If you are planning on attempting to get a graduate level job straight out of uni you stand next to no chance unless you have a 2:1 and some experience in the industry, due to the amount of people with 2:1's. Also helps if you are doing a specific degree, like I did business management and in every interview I went for when I'd finished uni I was asked why I didn't specialise in one aspect of business rather than doing a general (and therefore) easier course.

They still do that these days, or did a few years ago. Foundation and Higher they call it now, Foundation is a C maximum. I take it the fact you didn't get amazing grades hasn't mattered since? :p

I was put in Foundation for Electronics which was a complete joke. We had 10 people in our class, the teacher couldn't care less so every single lesson we sat around talking and "working", took us a year to finish a four week project and learnt absolutely no exam material. Still, nobody got below a C. Funny that.

I was always good on writing essays in my english class :D.

I'm currently writing a novel that will rival "50 shades of grey", it will blow it away.

In what way will it rival 50 Shades? In eroticism? It's not exactly popular for being well-written.

Whatever grease monkey. I imagine you to be like Minty in Eastenders working in the Archers.

Ahh okay that's interesting. How much of an effect did your "general/easier" course have on you then, did you overcome it?

I've got no experience at all, so would it be possible to get experience after doing a degree, or is it a bit late then? I'll try to get some next summer if not.

Every way.The story line of 50 shades seem very generic and predictable.Mine is a much more compelling and unpredictable story.
