I've been doing some research on our injuries and was quite shocked when I stumbled across Catts injury history since he's been at our club. Lee Cattermole Injury History Injury...........................................Date Injury Reported Back Injury.....................................2011 January 1st Groin/Pelvis Injury...........................2010 July 28th Dislocated Shoulder.........................2010 May 5th Calf Muscle Strain............................2010 March 9th Hamstring Injury..............................2009 December 25th MCL Knee Ligament Injury.................2009 October 17th Ankle/Foot Injury.............................2009 September 5th Back Injury......................................2009 August 18th No wonder the guy never looks fit when playing. He's almost as bad as John Mensah for the number of games he plays between injuries. I've discovered that Mensah has made 13 PL appearances this season and Catts has made 17 appearances. With all of the injuries that we've had this season, many of us have suggested that Mensah should not be signed permanently at the end of the current campaign. Knowing what we now know about Catts injury history, I'm interested to know what you think we should do with him. Injuries have cost us dear this season and last, and with a rumoured clearout of several players in the summer, could he be one on the hit list? Me personally, I'm not sure. He's a good player WHEN he is fully fit. When he is not fully fit we've all seen what happens with him bringing down players, earning himself red and yellow cards with resulting suspensions. So suspensions coupled with sustained periods out through injury is a bit of a worry if we are aiming to put a stop to loosing players for matches throughout next season. Over to you...........
He shouldn't be captain. What use is there having a captain when he's bloody missing for half the season injured. Bardsley should be imo. He can lead by example and actually put some effort in.
Too inexperienced to be captain regardless of his injury record, Bardsley looks a good shout at the moment though.
CHAPPS with your good input on here i think you picked the wrong team mate, but nice to have you on bord
Ohh I'm a mag through and through. I just don't mind Sunderland as much as some people on here (apart from derby days).
Would bardo's form dip if he was given the captaincy. As far as I can see this season he is the only one who has given 100% every time. Not saying he is the best full back, either RB or LB, but the commitment is there.
and thats the way it should be, sad thing is we only have a few idiots on either side but they tend to get all the publicity
Some good points there Dorset, although his injuries in 2009 (all leg) would be a worry for me. Goes to prove that a lot of players today although skilful are too brittle for a full season of PL games. Not sure how we can address this problem at SAFC that is a job for the scouts and coaches but, I think all teams have suffered with injuries this season and I'd put some of that down to this 25 man squad rule. The FA need to rethink this and maybe increase it to 30 to allow teams to rotate players more. Our injuries have been a nightmare again even with putting weakened teams out for the cup games. I can't remember any injury list at SAFC or any other team being this bad, it's not down to the amount of games as teams played twice a week regularly up until PL began (and even after that).
why should we strip our captain of the band for the last few games of the season and give it too someone else, its not good for the team. If anyone was going to be captain, it would be an actual captain such as Turner who can command the team.
I'll probably get shot down here but for me Ricco played his best footy for us when he had the captains armband on.
What was his injury record like at his Wigan and Boro days? If he is only getting injured like that here, the training that the lads do needs a total evaluation and revamp. To me, I think it is more than just bad luck with all the injuries it something to do with how we are training them etc...
I loved the fact that when Catts returned from injury, he ran onto the pitch, and straight to Titus and said 'give me my band'. I like Catts as captain, and hope his injury worries are behind him, if it weren't Catts it'd be Turner all day for me, although ifully agree Bardo would do a very worthy job. We don't need a change.
A fully fit Cattermole is genuinely England material. Just a shame we don't get to see too much of that Cattermole... He had a shocker v West Brom simply because he was not fit. Bruce says about not wanting to rush people back but he insisted on flinging Cattermole onto the pitch when Riveros and Colback were sitting on the bench. Changing topic slightly, I think we should give Riveros a chance. He hasn't done anything particularly special but he has had a couple of decent games. Colback impressed me at Birmingham. Like when Meyler broke into the team, he didn't do anything too fancy he just looked solid and competent at his job. Didn't lose the ball and made a few good passes too. Would rather play him than Muntari atm or push Muntari wider like he does for Ghana.
Agree that Bardsley looks to be a good leader but I would worry that the pressure of being captain may affect his form. He is without doubt the player of the season and for me the most improved player on the books.
Surprisingly, there is no evidence of him being injured during his time at Wigan, which casts a little doubt on the theory of SB's training methods. However, he did have a string of injuries when he was with the Smog Monsters....... Hamstring Injury........................2008 March 28th MCL Knee Ligament Injury...........2008 January 18th Hamstring Injury........................2007 February 8th Thigh Muscle Strain....................2006 November 13th Sprained Ankle..........................2006 August 9th Sprained Ankle..........................2006 April 6th Thigh Muscle Strain....................2006 February 3rd
Nice one mate, good research! I'm still unsure of Bruce's training methods I don't believe that all these injuries are bad luck it could be a lot off different things for example not having full recovery time and being rushed back, not playing enough games in reserves to get thier muscles stronger again etc... It doesn't seem right to say it was all bad luck fair enough maybe one or two but not the amount of numbers of players out we have had this season...
Nothing listed for Hearts on this......... http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/players/2570/craig_gordon_injury.html It's a pretty horrendous injury list that he's got during his time with SAFC! I'll have a trawl around the net, to see what I can find out EDIT: I was surprised to find that Craig Gordon played 99 consecutive games for Hearts, during his 4 seasons as their number 1 keeper. During those 4 seasons he played a total of 139 SPL matches, missing just 13 matches, the majority of which were not injury related absences. As we know, his SAFC career has been blighted by injuries. In his 4 seasons with us he has played 87 games, missing a disappointing 65 matches, the majority of which have been due to injury.
